I previously owned a '99 vert and I was quite satisfied with the standard gm bra for the c5. Now I have a '03 Z and I want to get a nice bra - but have had little success finding anything of decent quality.
What would you suggest?
I was thinking of just getting the standard c5 bra and just removing the plastic that would cover my screened vents. Other than that, I believe they are identical.
I'll assume you want quality rather than cheap. If so, check into SPEED LINGERIE. It's not inexpensive, but triple layered to protect against any road hazard, lifetime warranty, unique tongue in groove mounting system that will not flap, available in colors, mirror covers are available, with or w/o plate cutout, with black mesh over the openings, available for the Z06 and non Z06 cars.
The first time you install it, do it after it's nice and warm and/or have four hands. It was a PITA, but I did mine alone. Now, I can R&R mine in about 3 minutes.
I've had one on my Z16 since the day I brought the car home. I leave mine on all the time because of the road debris that plagues our AZ roadways. I'm west of you in the mountains. It's saved the front end from multiple hits from rocks and alligators, which haven't penetrated the vinyl. And beneath it, the front fascia is perfect. The SPEED LINGERIE bra has never caused any abrasion damage to the paint. Of coarse, common sense should tell you that you don't put the bra on over a dirty surface, and you don't leave it on a wet surface (still talking about the car).
"But wait..." in my best Billy Mays impression voice, someone is going to tell you not to use any bra because they don't look good, or to use the GM bra because it's cheap, or the lightweight Lycra bra will work just as well. That's your choice. It's your car to do with as you please...

I've used the regular GM bra on my 04-Z06 for 6years for road trips, with the plastic on the vents and have had no problems. I think the GM bra for Z06's had tabs that fastened on where the plastic is now.

Don't know if you can still get them but the GM C5 Z06 bra is very nice. Holds up to triple digit speeds over and over. I put 5K track miles on my C5Z and I used the GM bra for every one of them. Wouldn't trust any other make. The difference between the standard C5 bra and the Z bra is small but substantial. The Z bra doesn't have any of the clear plastic so the air intake openings are completely open. Instead of the plastic there are small plastic tabs that insert between the mounts of the front grille screens on both the top and bottom of the grilles.
Here is a picture that was taken while I was going through the bus stop at Watkins Glen. Speed is just above 80 mph at this point.
The depression in the center is due to my using my front license plate instead of the stock filler panel.
