I posted this before, I keep mine in the rear of the Vette. It is the safest place in the house. When I take her out for a cruise, I remove my second top and leave in the family room, which is a few feet away. I have a vinyl cover for it. In less than a minute either way, out or in, it is safe and secure. If yours is a daily driver, my way would be a pain in the as... It works for me.
I had this setup in my last house. The targa storage racks I bought from a member here and built my wheel hangers based on his pics since he couldn't get me a set at the time.

When I had the dual top option on my '99, I stored the spare top in one of the pouches you mention down in the basement. Kept it in perfect shape for years.
The main reason for having 2 tops is so you can actually switch them from time to time. Therefore convenience is important.
The following pics pretty much speak for themselves. I made the brackets with stuff I had lying around. The ceiling post is just a long lag bolt (6" should do) covered with hot water pipe foam. The little L-brackets have holes just large enough to accept the male posts on the top. It is important that the brackets be screwed into something solid in the wall in order to securely hold the weight. That's why I installed it above my garage window because I could screw directly to the header. If you don't have a similar location, I would suggest a 1" by 4" cross brace screwed securely to the wall and then mount the L-brackets to that. Total cost was $0.00 and about an hour (to be generous) of my time.
I can change tops in about 5 minutes. Oh, if you have a storage bag, the top can be stored in it as well with this setup.
Mine is on the carpet under a bed that has sides all around it, so it is never touched by anyone or anything. I change tops maybe once a year just to have a different look, so I want to keep both. Jon
Mine is wrapped in a blanket and hanging on the wall above the polar bear in the top left of this pic. I switch to the clear top for a couple months in winter, otherwise it is way too hot with the clear top down here in FL.
My C5 came with both tops from the previous owner in a proper cover stored in the rear of the car. Now the glas one lies beneath the work bench in our storage bldg. It's hot here in the summer and I doubt we will ever use it. Almost forgot we had one.
Guess the original owner of my '99 coupe had no use for the body colored hard top as the car only came with the clear top. Fine by me since I would not use the other top either. Would probably store it under the bed if I had one. I do hang my clear top on the wall in the garage when not using it. I bought the hanger at either Ecklers or Mid-America. Forget which. The clear top spends most of the nice weather on the wall since as long as I'm staying local, I travel with a Carbrella canvas temp top.
