Hello everyone. I have had a set of SpeedHut gauge faces sitting in my closet for over a year and now I am ready to install them. I found threads on how to remove the gauges but I can't get the SpeedHut face plates to slide over the gauge needles. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Great link! Unfortunately the faceplates I have are ridged so I can't bend them around the needles. The link states not to remove the needles so now I am really at a loss as what to do.
I bought the face plates they have on ebay that light up aqua at night. Also bought a damaged cluster to experiment with. These plates are flexible enough so you can get them over the needles.I used some clear RTV to glue them in place . All went well till I got some glue in the hole the tach needle goes in and screwed up the tach. But boy do the guages look good when lit up!! So I guess it can be done with a little patience. Good luck!!!!
I put a flexible face plate on my 01 Chevy Z71 truck about six years ago. My instructions said to take the needles off but gave me a couple of tips. I drew a diagram of where the needles were pointing when my car was warmed up and idling. (ex: 600 rpm, 190 degrees temp, 3/4 tank gas, etc) Then I drew another diagram of the needles when the truck was totally cold. Pulled the needles, replaced the face plate and put the needles back on in their exact positions. Warmed the car back up to steady state and measured to see if I got the same readings as before. I did. Had a friend test my speedo by driving beside me at a couple of different speeds. Everything checked out.
There was no way I was ever going to get my face plate over those needles.
