Default Lubricate Power Antenna?

Is it recommended to lubricate the mast on the power antenna? If so, what lubricant should be used?

I believe I read in the owner's manual that it doesn't get anything but wiped off to clean it. Nothing else is added...

Look in the book?

Dave,

The manufacturers of the antenna masts like it if you wax the shafts.

Nothing down in the antenna, just the shafts.

Polish him nicely, he'll thank you.

Yes, NEVER oil an automatic antenna. It will lead to collection of debris and jamming / failure of the antenna. Just keep it clean.

Default Believe GM manual says mineral spirits

Thought I saw that in either the owners or shop manual. Antennamastsrus says don't lubricate it.

Here's what my owner's manual states on power antenna care:

1. Turn on the ignition and radio to raise the antenna.
2. Dampen a clean cloth with mineral spirits or equivalent solvent.
3. Wipe the cloth over the mast sections, removing any dirt.
4. Wipe dry with a clean cloth.
5. Make the antenna go up and down by turning the radio or ignition off and on.
6. Repeat if necessary.

Notice: Don't lubricate the power antenna. Lubrication could damage it.
