Default New vette owners

Is it me or does it seem of late that based on recent intro threads by new forum members, a good share of new C5's and C5Z owners are fairly young, as in early 20's and some in their late teens.

For your safety and that of everyone else sharing the road with you, I hope you all exercise good judgement and are responsible drivers, especially with 385-405hp at your immediate disposal. Not preaching here, just saying this because I see young Jack-*** drivers on the SoCal roads on a daily basis (old ones too to be fair).

Be safe out there.

Just picked up my 02 Z a few weeks ago I'm 19 and owned two LS1 T/A's before. Alot people seem to be picking up C5's lately.

I am 25 and bought an 02 Z a few months ago. The C5 series is getting to be really affordable. Before I got my Z I saw a few high mile 00-01 coupes that were under 10k and even more in the under 13k. The C5 is perfect a young gear head that isn't afraid of mileage and wants reliable, iconic speed.

I too am one of the young ones recently posting their new purchase.
An 04Z black with mod red interior. I have had my eye on one for years and finally convinced my wife to give her blessing. And with the third child on the way no less.
Well, I did have to buy her a new ride before I got mine.

I love the fact that more people are discovering how great the C5 series really is. If the car magazines didn't have our interiors to bitch about, there'd be even more of the younger crowd getting in on the performance bargain of all time.

I really don't see the problem with youger folks buying 'vettes. What's more dangerous a 24 year old with good vision, reflexes, hearing etc or the retiree who goes out and buys his first sports car at age 65? Personally I'd rather be on the road with the younger guy.

When I turned sixteen (30 years ago) my dad handed me the keys to a '70 Ford LTD which had been special ordered from the dealership with the 429 cui police package. The guys I ran around with had everything from from late '60s Camaros, Mustangs, Challengers, you name it. Most of which were modified, of course. The rich kids had new late 70's model Trans Ams, Camaros, Mustang IIs etc, none of which had anywhere near the HP of the older cars. We all did just fine and no one was killed, even though some of us might have gotten a speeding ticket or two.

Today's cars are much safer and most of the younger crowd I know are much better drivers than we were at the same age.

I catch grief all the time about Corvettes being the "old guys" car, etc so I'm glad to see some new blood joining in the fun!

Only bad thing I see is overall insurance rates going up for vette owners with the addition of all of the new teen/20 something vette owners.

The C5Z06 is the best Performance Bang-for-the-buck out there... I thought it was a smokin' deal when they were selling for $35k.

~$20k for a clean Z is an incredible deal for a car that delivers performance & reliability etc...

It's a buyers market right now and I purchased my Z 3 weeks ago. I seem to be one of the older guys at age 47.

26 here, manhood acheived 2 weeks ago with the addition of my 04Z. of all the $$$ I've spent in the last 10 years on mustangs, lightnings, and a lifted truck; this purchase puts them all to shame. nothing like barking the tires at 75mph and powering through curves.

and all for 28K, cant beat it.

For all 3 Vettes that I own (02 Z, 04 Z, 08 Vert.) I pay less than a $900 a year for full coverage. Getting older does have it's advantages.

Exactly...I'm 30 now and just bought a MY '02 - no chance I could have afforded the insurance in my early or mid 20's. I think it's all in the pricing - the C6 along with the fact that the first C5's are now 13 model years old have made the body style affordable enough. So for what once was mustang/camaro money, a C5 is realistic if you can swing the insurance.

I've been pretty impressed with the performance per dollar so far!

Default 54% under 39

Someone could start a poll and find the age group that gravitates to the Z06 as owners.

Found one on another forum a year ago which suggests the following:

<30......691 25.8%
30-39...740 28%

40-49...589 22%
50-59...517 19%
60-69...120 4%
70-79......1 .4%
80&up....14 (throw this false result out of the equation)

I would include the <20 and 20-29 age group to break it down more precisely.

does it really matter?

who cares?

if you get a corvette at any age you are a winner.

i know 30 year olds that act like they are 15 and some that act like they are 60.

think about this: when you turn 50 a lot of people say you are old but if you die at 50 the same people say he died so young.

Congrats...All depends on what you're shooting for. More power? Go-Kart like suspension? Looks? There are plenty in every Mod aspect for you to spend your hard earned $$$ on. Good luck.
