Default Seat stitching ripping

Has anyone else had issues of their stitching ripping right above the "lateral" supports? Its ripping out on both sides on my drivers side seat, its an 03 Z06 with only 24k miles.... I am rather surprised they are failing on such a low mile car

If you see some white in there, just get a fine point sharpy and fill it in. This will mask it unless you have a bigger problem. I presume you are talking about the seat back, not the seat bottom. I have a slight issue with this, it's really small. But I had over 40k more miles than you when I noticed this. (It was probably present at your mileage, but I can't confirm since I did not own it back then). You would think it would be more of a seat-time..ie mileage issue, but maybe it is more of a age issue regardless of mileage-seat-use or seat time despite that going against common sense.

Maybe you won't get that at 2yrs old and 65kmi but you WILL get that at 7 yrs old and 6,344 miles........as an example

Ya its on the seat back, the little horizontal 3 inch or so section on both sides. Mine over the course of a couple weeks went from the white showing to ripped open.

Holy Hell Batman.........Maybe an upholstery shop can black stich both sides so it matches or you might need to replace the whole skin. Are you a "lateral support" surfer? I manage to sit my azz on the seat bottom with very little to no surfing. I think this is what helps me out to not get where you are.

I have the same rip in the 3" seam on upper left side of driver on my 03. I went to Wally Mart and got a leather touchup kit that color matches for my oak color. Since the stitch was only about 1/8" exposed and about 2" long it turned out pretty good for a temp fix for a yr or 2

Have the same issue in my '02 but only on the driver's side. I'm changing out the vinyl for leather, should be stronger.

I had the same problem on my first Vette, but my second (with 56k miles) doesn't have the problem (yet). I'm curious if it has to do with how I exit the car. I'm around 6' 2" and my forearm usually lands on that cushion to assist with my exit when the car is in the garage and the door can't fully open. When I park outside the door hinges wide open and I pull against the steering wheel, and no force applied to the edge of the seat.

Any commonality with the rest of you experiencing this? I might need to upgrade to a 4-wide garage so I can take up two parking stalls and avoid seat wear.

Funny (not haha funny) you should post this. I just noticed the exact same thing last Tuesday. I was almost sick since my car only has 32,000 on it.

I also wondered if it had something to do with the way I get in/out of the car. Damn...

I tend to get in the same way each time, rubbing that area, I'm sure that's how I got mine - I try and get in now without hitting that spot...sometimes it works, other times, not so well....

Wow, that's very low mileage to have something like that happen. I think I too would check with a good upholstery shop to see if they can make a good repair, even if it means taking the skin off and then restitching it.

I think mine is from exiting the car as I tend to put pressure on that spot especially when I'm in the garage. Noticed mine this spring with 65K on my 2003 Vert.

I had this happen to my Coupe with less then 25,000 miles. It's a comman problem, as you tend to slide down into the seat as you enter the car, and put additional stress on the seam. Had the seat back replaced under warranty.

Mine split right by the driver shoulder on the left. Easy fix at a upholstery shop.
