I want to upgrade the sound system in my '03 Z. I don't want to do the big bass unit in the back or add navi or anything that big, but just want to have better sound than stock. Are there aftermarket units out there that will look fairly stock and fit in the dash opening without cutting and hacking up the surround? How about speakers - better than OEM that will fit like stock? Lastly, should I trust a local shop to install safely? Please let me know what you think. Of all the stuff I've done to my car this is one I don't want to undertake! Thanks!
1st Sell all the bose stuff then get a good head unit ,(ALPINE) and upgrade the speakers to (JL speakers)6.5 front and back thats the basic route to take ,Have fun and spend some money you cant take it with ya!!!!!!!!!!
just get a nice after market deck such as alpine, pioneer, or kenwood, etc and also grab some nice 6.5 inches speakers. i used to run a pioneer 7900 single din deck but now i am running a kenwood ddx-514 double din deck and PG rsd 6.5 inch component speakers.they sound amazing and are pretty cheap.
I can put you an entire package together bases on wants/needs and your budget as well.
I really like the new KEnwood kiv bt900 and the kdc x994(call for price due to MAP pricinge guidelines)
front speakers will need adapter plates
elemental designs e3.65 6.5 components for front 135.00 and infinity rear 5 1.4 or 6.5 for 75.00
roem-vet1 harness 49.99
c5 indash instlal kit 12.99
gm6 antenna adapter 2.99
this would be a great start. If you want to throw in an amp to power we can do that too.
send me a pm with your budget amount and fetures your looking for and I can build you a pakcage deal.

I dunno....I think Id still go with a sub & amp, regardles of what other components you add.....It makes a world of difference in the sound.....I installed a single 10inch JL Audio Dub3 in the passenger side cubby...It doesnt take up much room and the difference is incredible
At least remove and replace the Bose speakers! I went with Elemental Design and love them. Remember if you plan replacing the stereo and speakers.....go all out! That way you won't have to do it again! I too went with Double D Mods and installed a Kenwood plus sub. Best mod ever, so far!
Very Nice, wish I could find one of those cubby boxes.

Nope...you wont find one anywhere...Had a buddy custom make it for me...Lemme know if youre interested in one....I'll send you his info....He still has the specs to make more...(he's already done several for friends of mine)..He also did this one-off unit in my C6Z..
I upgraded everything but left the stock headunit, (wanted the stock look). I have a 10 sub in the back. I placed in the cnter cube. Makes a world of difference when it comes to sound. Just my 0.02.
