OK - I'm sure I'm opening a thread that's been beat to death but I can't find much when I search -
When my '02 is first started I hear a light tapping noise for a minute or so then it goes away. I'm assuming this is light valve tap until the oil circulates but want to make sure there's not something happening that I need to look at....
I'm pretty sure it is normal, though I am by no means an expert. I thought the same thing when I first got my '99 coupe. Searched the forums and found the LS1 can be a noisy engine upon startup. Funny, all the noise went way when I installed my GHL Bullet cat back exhaust.

So if I get my new exhaust, it should fix my problem! Great news (or at least another excuse for getting new Corsa Tourings anyway.
When first started my Z06 makes noise for the first minute or so. Then it goes away. I have been informed, through the forum, that this is piston slap and is normal in a Z06. I have a Borla exhaust and it did not fix the problem. I would suggest turn the radio on really, really loud and the problem will be fixed.

Many GM engines experience noise like this.....the valve train tends to be noisy (sewing machine sound) or piston slap (goes away as engine heats up)....From posts, seems to cause no harm
