Default Reproduction wheel installation

Looking for advice.
Got a great price on a set of reproduction wheels, C6 Z06 Spyder wheels in standard C5 sizes, for my 2004 MY Coupe.
A major tire company claims during the takeoff of the old wheels and install of the new wheels the tires will probably breakdown and I will more than likely need a new set of tires.
The tires are Good year run flats, 6 years old, 14500 miles,
Are they trying to sell tires or is this a real concern?
Thanks for your comments.

I upgraded my wheels a few years back and the runflats came off and were swapped over with no problems.

I have a CE 2004 and my tires were made in 8/03. They are almost 7 years old. I'd watch them closely, mine are showing cracks after 15K miles.

"The tires are Good year run flats, 6 years old, 14500 miles."

These were garbage the day they were new!
Replace them with anything other then GY RF's and you will have a completly new car.

You wouldn't have to buy new tires...but age-wise those are getting a bit long in the tooth. I'd consider it.

Unless you have some major problems with the runflats now, such as cracking in the tire itself, I don't see why there would be any issues with them taking the old tires off and putting them on the new wheels.

I do agree however that those tires are getting pretty old and it might not be a bad idea to at least consider getting a new set.

Those 6 year old GY runflats are rock hard by now and probably very noisy. If you do not do a lot of hard at the limit driving they will be OK for street use. New tires will provide a noticeable increase in handling, quietness and enjoyment. IMHO it would be well worth the $.

I don't know what they mean by "breakdown." The tire is not going to crumble in to dust as they take it off the rim. But I certainly would not drive on 6 year old tires, especially on a Corvette. They are going about it in the wrong manner, but you do need new tires.

There is a date on the tires of when they were made. I thought I heard that tires are good for about 7 years max. Then you should really get new tires.

Some info about that here. (says 6 years max)

I think the shop is just being safe. It won't break down on install but if the rubber is getting hard it will start to crack and break down on you while driving. This happened on my girl's Honda. We were driving back from Vegas and the tire just popped and shredded on the highway. The shop has a right to not install it because they don't want people coming back saying they did something wrong and their tires are now bad.
