I have been trying to buy OEM Goodyear tires for my 2003 convertible since April. No one has stock for the rears - not even Tirerack. Goodyear says they are on national back order. Can you believe that Goodyear has no tires for Corvettes in the spring?!! Maybe they're pissed that Chevrolet put Michelins on the ZR-1. Anyone have any advice or insight?
Why bother? One of the happiest days I had after buying the Vette was the day I junked those Goodyear run craps. The Michelin run flats handle better, ride better, are much quieter, and believe it or not, they cost less than the Goodyears would have. The also seem to be wearing longer. The only advantage with the Goodyears is that they will go farther running flat. To me, that was a small price to pay considering all the other advantages. By being on back order, Goodyears is doing Vette owners a big favor.
Goodyear’s Newest Eagle Flies on 2011 Corvette
AKRON, Ohio, February 4, 2010 – The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is announcing its newest ultra-high performance tire, the Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2, and its arrival is boosted by the achievement of an original equipment position on the 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.
The new Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 builds upon a three-decade relationship between Goodyear and Corvette. For Corvette owners and other enthusiasts who demand the most from their performance automobiles, the Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 is "street-refined, but track-capable," according to Bob Toth, Goodyear’s director of new products.
An asymmetric, directional tread design with massive tread blocks on the outboard shoulder help enhance dry cornering grip, while sweeping Aquachannel grooves on the inboard side of the tread help enhance wet cornering grip. An innovative multi-radius mold shape helps to offer precise handling and smooth, even wear.
Even the appearance of the tire is important; a serrated band sidewall styling and distinctive lettering add to the overall ultra-performance look.
"The new Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 is positioned as a race-inspired, ultra-high performance dry traction tire for select supercars. With a left-side, right-side specific tread design, it offers superb dry traction and precise handling, complementing both the performance and appearance of sports cars," Toth said.

Goodyear is fighting back for some of the Corvette business. Why not go with Michelin PS2 ZPs, its a newer generation tire of matching caliber?

Amen!!!! Goodyear screwed me one too many times - Michelins are great!
Goodyear screwed me too. I bought a set of their GS D3's at a premium cost and had to replace one of the rears a few months later. Got the same run around about back order etc. etc. Finally found one about a year later and had to run a plugged tire (sidewall) in the meantime.
Look at the Hankooks if you are thinking of dumping the run craps, Michelins if not. You can buy a full set of Hankooks for the price of 2 GY's or Michelins and they are getting great reviews.

I can hardly wait to burn my GYRF out on the rear. I'll replace with Hankooks. I did the fronts (hankooks, too new and too cheap to do rears) and keep a "tire fix it kit" in the car. Don't fear the non run flats. Better hadling, less noise. Whooo hoo!! Don't foget to have an alignment done after replacing tires.
PS2's are a great tire, but I was surprised how good the nitto 555's are for a relatively inexpensive tire on the c5. I've tracked it several times on them and swapped back and forth with my friends c5 with ps2's and I'd say they are a match for each other on total grip too. Both tires ride tons better than the run flats and are a lot quieter.
