[Z06] What's going on: Please help

What's going on: Please help
I have a 2001 C5Z & the other day when I was driving I came to a top & another car pulled up next to me & was doing what we all know these guys( driving a Mustang Cobra) do. So I decided to give him a little taste & the light turned green, I took off & before I could shift into 2nd ( speed of about 40) I noticed a camera light up ahead turn yellow, so I decided to stop & when I came to a complete stop, my rpms were at 2000, even though the car was at a complete stop. I started freaking out. I don't even know what the guy next to me was doing at that point. I am not driving the car till I figure out what's going on. Please any suggestions will be appreciated.

Did your idle come back down after a few moments? If so...You car is fine...your spinning that motor up pretty good at WOT, then shut it down suddenly...the inertia of the rotating mass in the motor and flywheel cannot come back to idle instantly...it will hang for a few moments....btw, take it to the track..
