Agreed with all of the above; the fuel economy of these things is stellar. It's the aerodynamics.
I have to say though I've noticed the car actually does better at about 70-75 MPH than at 60 MPH. My last vehicle (Chevy Equinox) would get 28MPG at 55 MPH and 22 MPG at 70. Meaning, I get better economy at a faster speed with my Vette than a 6-cylinder small SUV. No downsides to ownership!

hmmm.... i keep reading these and keep asking myself what I'm doing wrong. My '02 Z never gets more than 23 on the interstate with the cruise on.... and historical average always hovers between 17 and 18... ???

Yep that's normal on a long distance trip. I drove to Indiana from Virginia this week and got 32 solid! Even in the horrible traffic around Washington DC I get 21 which is awesome considering what I have to deal with on a daily basis!

Justin! 37 MPG! INCREDIBLE! GM engineers got it right designing these drive trains. ![Big Grin](https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin5.gif)
From what I've experienced and from what I'm hearing… we can acquire these figures with the air-conditioning on yet! I'm impressed.

Took a trip from Kansas City to Denver and back. I got 32mpg going there and 33.5mpg coming back! That trip is pretty level ground though, I was still impressed!

i usually average about 32.0 in my frc. i even run z06 sized tires and non run flats. ive recently started playing a game to see how low i can get the gas mileage around town. its a REALLY fun game.

In May I went from VA to Cincinnati, 1K miles round trip. I cruised RT 50 pretty much the whole way to have fun with the mountains. We stopped at Alpine Lake WVA for golf and overnight stay on the way out. A bit of local driving there for dinner and supplies. Once in Ohio, RT32. I may have gone a bit faster than 70 a few times in the flats of Ohio. I just parked it, once in the city, so I left the mileage meter sit.
But the real kick was having a bit of fun in the mountains on RT 50 both ways. The top was up 3/4 of trip (to protect clothes we needed for a wedding) but on the way back, in WVA the top had to come down. Beautiful weather, twisties, and driving through small towns. So the cruising speed varied quite a bit. Drove the return trip in just the one day. I was very happy with the overall 28 MPH. All Stock, A4, 3.12 gears.
I guess I could have gone interstate and got better mileage, but naaah, I like the golf and mountain roads too much.

C5 6 speeds give the best MPG of any Corvette ever made, including the C6. I routinely see 30-32 mpg in my 02, 6 speed coupe if I can keep it around 70-75.
My C6 6 speed never gave me more than 28 mpg under similar conditions.

I think I get about 28 on long trips. But I have to admit I do punch it over 70 quite often. I'm sure if I stayed between 60-65 I'd probably see a point or two higher.

best of 35.7 DIC one day. I have a pic! even if its not 100% accurate, that's amazing.
700ft elevation drop over the 300mi trip factored into that. mostly 60mph 4 lane highway. few 70mph sections, several 45 or 35 sections and a dozen stoplights or so. took the final pic sitting on my driveway at the end of the trip. 93 non-ethanol fuel!
I've never had a repeat of that amazing miliage. for the first hour of that trip the DIC reported over 36.
but 32-33 happens all the time. 34's a few times.

You aren't doing anything wrong. I do about the same as you in my '04 Z06.

maybe move the shifter into 6th instead of 4th?
strange though. the Z has a higher coef of drag and "better" gearing which would tend to lower mpgs some, I wouldn't expect that much. even guys with SC C5's are getting high 20's

The amazing thing is I've also had it at the strip and turned a 13.08/110.24!! Faster and quicker than the monster motored 60's muscle cars,,and the fuel economy of modern econo cars!! My car was doing the same thing. The reason was that it was running really rich. Take your car to a tuning shop and have the AFR fixed. Doing that on my car got my MPG right back where it should be.

Why doesn't chevy strut their stuff about this? I mean camrys barely get gas mileage like that and we are talking about a 13 year old vehicle now that runs like a raped aped and handles like a dream? I never understood that.
