Hello, Looking for some feedback from those who have changed their shifters to either a (BM Ripper) or (Hurst Billet plus). Pros- Cons -likes-dislikes, worth the money? Trying to see which one seems to be the best choice....
I have the B&M ripper and like it, very solid feel...However it doesn't not have the self centering alignment/mechanism like the Hurst (springs that center alignment of the shifter). I am thinking about switching to a shifter that has a centering mechanism, like the Hurst or an MGW... You can probably find either in the used parts section for around a 100.00..
My 04Z has the B&M in it. It was that way when I bought it. I did drive several with the stock unit in them. Get rid of the stock shifter and the big blocky ****. It makes a world of difference.
Had both the hurst and the B&M in my z06 you might as well skip both and go straight to the mgw in my opinion it is a far better piece and the feel is amazing compared to the other 2
I just converted another z owner from switching from the b&M to the mgw after he drove my car last week.
I took out my stock C5 and installed a stock C6 shifter and like it a lot. It is very positive feeling and there is no hunting around for the right gear up or down shifting.

b&m sport in mine for about 5yrs. my only complaint would be a bit of vibration after it got a bit broken in. takes more muscle but i like the short throws.
I just bought the RSD snap shifter, from what i have seen and read it looks like the best all around shifter. I am actually waiting for it to be delivered as we speak so i can install it...
Just wanted to chime in again, i install the RSD shifter tonight. Literally perfect. EXACTLY what i wanted. I cannot say enough things. Full install, from beginning to end took 25 minutes.
I have the short shaft with the threaded shaft.
I believe it is 30% throw reduction.
The throw is plenty reduced. It actually feels like it was reduced by more than 30%.
I think it is a matter of preference but i tried the c6 z06 shifter and it feel like the stock c5 z06 Shifter box with a much shorter shaft.
My car is only driven on occasion and is far from beeing a daily driver. The MGW provided that race car feeling the stock shifter was lacking.

Thanx....I'm leaning toward the short shaft version myself.

I have the B&M Sport (not to be confused with the Ripper) in my 02 Z. It is a significant upgrade over stock. W/ the isolated upper shaft on the shifter you get a virtually silent shifter unlike most other aftermarket units. It does not have the self-centering springs though. (I believe the newest MGW design doesn't use centering springs either) I've been thinking of maybe trying one of the other brands to see if any are better. Not that I have any specific complaints w/ the B&M though.
The B&M sport also has the side benefit of being able to work w/ both the C5 or 05-07 C6 shift ****. I just installed the C6 **** a few weeks ago and it seriously made a significant improvement in overall shifting, the blocky crap stock C5 **** just has crap for ergonomics. I was quite pleasantly surprised at the difference the C6 **** made.
I'm thinking I may shell out for the MGW and give it a try, but I'm concerned it won't give much benefit over the B&M since it also no longer uses the centering springs. I want truly 100% foolproof 2-3 shifts... Although the B&M is pretty good I've managed to fumble 3rd a couple times recently, could all just be me though...
