Default Small tranny leak...

I have a small leak on the seal on the back of the tranny, its just a very small drip at this point, you can see the seal in the picture, the area that I cleaned up the drip is just coming through at the bottom.

Would it be a good idea to really clean it good with brake cleaner and put a good bead of silicon sealant on there to try to stop it or slow it down? I figure the best time to get that 'fixed' would be when I need a new clutch?

Thanks for any ideas or tips.

Oh, does anyone know the torque spec for those casing bolts?

Its a MN6 02Z.

I wouldn't worry about a permanent fix untill you are dropping the unit for a repair/mod. For a 99.5% fix untill then. Clean the area where the trans/diff meet, with a dry rag and get the oil/brake cleaner, completely off. Then get some Permatex Ultra Grey (Ridged High-Torque RTV Silicone Gasket Maker) . Starting at the drivers side upper portion of this "seam" you will see a tag on the trans. Start applying a generous amount of Permatex there and work your way around to approximatly directly accross to the other side, along the seam. I would let this dry, undisturbed for around 24 hours. As far as the torque of the bolts, just tighten with a small box end wrench(don't over tighten!). Good luck.

i had the same leak and got it repaired. keep an eye on your fluid level. left untouched, the leak will only worsen. i would get the gasket replaced and get it fixed the right way. there is an alternate method to fixing this, but the repair typically doesnt last for more than a couple years.

drain the transmission fluid, and clean the area with brake cleaner as previously suggested. hook up a vacuum to the plug in the transmission after you apply the sealant. be sure to try and seal the vacuum to get as much suction as possible. the difference in pressure will force the sealant into the leak in the gasket rather than just cover it up from the outside.

When I had my '00 it had a leak in the same spot - I went ahead and had it repaired since it was under warranty. If it is not leaking too much, with waiting until you change the clutch and then do it.

Yeah its not a bad leak only a few drops every week or so, I just changed my tranny fluid just before this started so I'll try the first suggestion first, I have some permatex copper, we'll see if that can seal it up. I've read about the vacuum tip before thanks for brining it up.
