well looks like I got this bug,I bought this car in feb,the guy had all records, and they show that the dealer put a harness to fix colum problem.Well today was going to car wash and I got service colum lite. What do I do now?I'am new to corvettes.Do I need to go to the after market are what do I do.The will start but will shut down when put in gear. Thanks by the way, also get remove key wait 10 seconds.
Most of us have installed a column lock by pass.
They cost around $50 at Corvettes of Houston aned a couple of other places. Give them a call, they'll be happy to discuss the 'problem' with you.

You'll be removing the K harness installed by dealer and replacing with the CLB.
I'd definitely start by checking the battery voltage directly across the posts with NO KEY in the ignition using a digital voltmeter. Needs to be at least 12.5 volts for the column lock electronics to function properly. If not, fully charge the battery, clear the error messages and DTC's set in the BCM and see what you have. Still order a CLB as you will want it installed. Do NOT bother with the dash gage readings for the battery. They CANNOT tell you the state of health of the battery from those readings. MOST COMMON cause of the column lock symptoms is a low or bad battery or loose or corroded battery connections.
Once you get and install a CLB you need to clear the error messages and any DTC's set in the BCM. There are some fuses that you can pull that often, but not always clear these. Guaranteed way is to disconnect the battery neg cable for at least 10 minutes.
Ok,I checked batt shows 12.7,cleared all codes still same.Looking at prev owners records, shows dealer put a harness k 2.195. If I get the after market one,do they install in same?

Disconnect BOTH ends of the K harness and then plug the male connector of the CLB into the Female connector that is attached to the bottom of the dash that the K Harness male connector was plugged into. Then Clear the codes and you should be set.
I was at a car show tonight and this guy with an 01 said he gets the column lock message every time he starts the car and all he does is hit the reset button ! Says it goes away every time and he never locked up.....go figure

Without knowing what has been done, there is NO WAY short of looking to know why that is happening. It should NOT happen on an 01 if a CLB has been properly installed. If he is interested in trying to resolve the issues, have him PM me on the Forum and I will give him some things to look at to get around the error message and having to hit reset every time he starts the car. It may be that a previous owner had the fuel shutoff reprogrammed to a higher number but either did not install a CLB or improperly installed a CLB or it could be any of several other combination of things.
So,I'am I hearing,if I get the cld and take out the k dilly, will I still have to get efi reflashed b4 I can drive it?
Should NOT have to make any other changes once you remove the K Harness (if it is still installed) and install the CLB and then clear all the codes and DTC's.
Reprogramming the PCM to reset the fuel shut off speed is not necessary in the vast majority of the Column Lock cases.

Well got the clb from corvettes of houston today iinstalled in 5 mins, all is well I'am driving again.Man that was easy.Next trip to Dallas I will got to corvetts of Dallas and get pcm set to 200 mph. Thanks to all.....
Had all of the exact same problems and finally took care of it the right way last year Did two things:
1. Buy and in install the column lock bypass kit (Corvettes of Houston).
2. Have you PCM re-tuned (not by a dealership!!!!). Go to someone who comes highly recommended who can connect a computer to your PCM and among other things ask them to "turn off" the fuel shut off program.
Once you do these two things that should take care of the problems. I still get the pull key, wait 10 seconds message occasionally but nothing happens when I start to drive. No fuel shut off, no column locking up.
I still will turn off the engine and start it again to get rid of the message but nothing bad will happen.
