Yep, "how fast is it". The question everyone gets when the conversation starts to revolve around their car. I was confronted with this twice tonight and both times, I didnt know what to answer so I took a guess and said "165+". Top speed? 0-60? 1/4 Mile? Trap Speed? What do you guys answer when this infamous question is asked??

 

The question always leads to BS statements from others.

Them: How fast is your Vette

You: Well, the factory speeds are 0-60, sub 5 sec, and top speed of 175.

Them: My cousin's brother had a Transmarro that....blah....blah...with a blah....blah...that did 185.....sub 4 sec.....with heat seeking missles.


Here's the deal, they know it's fast. they are setting you up to "one up" you.

I always just use humor......Like: Well, on the way here, I completely dusted this old lady in a Dodge Neon!! and we leave it at that....

 

Since mine is highly modified,

0-60 in well under 4 seconds (slicks)

Low 11's at +/- 125mph (slicks)

Top speed is only about 153 due to 3.73 rear - tested on a closed course

 

I tell them I only got her up to 120 at Talladega because the officials slowed our group down. You should see their mouths drop open. Then I tell them hubby only got to 140.

Since I have had the oppurtunity to take it to the track I say:

"Right now it only does a 10.34 @ 135 MPH in the 1/4 mile and I only had enough guts to take it to 180 MPH once - how fast is yours?"

I "ONLY" make this statement if they are seriously interested and not some young punk kid being and acting like a youn punk. Yes! I can tell!

I tell them the car was tested around 170mph, but that I have about 100 more hp than that.

Then their next question was how fast have I went in the car... and I don't tell

 

Yeah, my number one question seems to be "How fast have YOU taken it?"

My buddies all know the real answer, but to everyone else I just say "Well the maximum speed limit on the highway in Michigan is 70 mph"

 

I know how fast my car is! But usually tell the punks much slower times. Usually I'm like its a solid 14 sec. car!

 

I just say that GM published 0-60 in 3.9 sec and 1/4 mi in 12.4 sec. Track verification with radar gun shows 0-60 times at 3.91 seconds.
However, the 1/4 mi time is conservative. A good driver can rip a 12.29 1/4 at 117mph over and over. A better driver will get say 12.16 the second run and 12.03 the third. An excellent driver will get sub 12 second runs bone stock after a few tries at the tune of 11.97 secs. at darn near 119 MPH. You can expect a 60ft time of 1.89sec and 1/8 mi. in 7.8 seconds at 94mph all stock--engine and tires. Don't get me started on drag radials, cam, intake, tune etc.

3500 rpm to above six grand, the LS6's pull is so violent that it feels as if it will pull the front of the car off oh and it can stop too at 117ft from 60mph and handles great to with .98g going clockwise, and a brain-sloshing 1.02g counter-clockwise reading, for a cool bi-directional average of 1.00g.

I usually don't go in that much detail, simply 0-60 in 3.9seconds and 1/4 mi stock b/t 11.95 to 12.4 depending on driver/conditions with great braking and handling too and she can top out at around 171mph or so, lower due to gearing differences.

I make it clear that I drive responsibly on the road and don't track my car, b/c I choose not to, but those who have experience tracking the Z, can reproduce the performance #s I shared.

 

Wow! You guys sure are colorful when talking about how fast your vette is. I just say . . . it's fast enough

 

For your year, top speed was advertised as 175, with 0-60 in the 4.8 sec range and 1/4 mile in around 13.1. That is unless you want to embellish on those numbers a bit.

 

I just tell them it's slow and that it's missing on a cylinder

I just say ...it is real fast....The speedo goes to 200 but I have not even taken it up to 100...yet.
I say that a Prius can go as fast as I do on the highway.....I can just get to that speed much faster in time !
They usually leave me alone then.

 

I just tell 'em it will break the posted speed limit in second gear.

 

It depends on who's asking. If it is an enthusiast, and they truly want to know, I'll tell them it runs a high 12 or low 13 in the quarter. If it's a one-upper I just tell them it's fast enough to get into trouble.

Or I'll just offer to take them for a ride

 

No matter what yo say it will never be as quick as their cousins,brothers best friends,uncles, mothers etc....... car!
I had a true low 11 second street rod that I actually raced [see avatar] and it never failed that someone always had a friend or relitive thats car could "blow my doors off"! I never seemed to see these guys in the other lane at the strip however! Now that I sold the car after 14 years I still hear Boy I wish you still had your Coupe dave, I allways wanted to race you!

I had a Walmart buggy catcher dude come up to me and ask me what I had done to my car. I told him it was cam only making 415rwhp. He then told me that a stock Ford GT could beat me, lol. He then proceeded to say that he's watched youtube videos and the Ford GT is always beating vettes. I then told him that he needed to expand his youtube search hroizons to C6 ZR1 and report back to me, then I laughed and walked off.

 

Depends on who is asking. If it is someone that legitimately doesn't know, usually a chick, then I will say, it tops out over 170mph. If it is some highschoolers that look like they have something funny to say, I lie and say it has a 950hp LSX yadda yadda yadda and that I raced a Veyron and passed it by a car length.
