Just installed the CLB and the steering wheel is still locked, I no longer get the service message; and I just had my battier checked and it is good. What is my nest step?
I had the same issue and after some research I found that you can trace down the motor plug (its one of the connectors you unplugged at the factory harness and then replugged to the clb) and send a 12v current to it and in my case it released the wheel. However the clb would not convince the computer all was well and it would still kick in the 2mph fuel shut down. Then I had to trailor the car to a competent tuner who adjusted the fuel shut off feature to 256mph instead of the normal 2mph activation. Google "column lock simulator" instead of column lock bypass. Hope my experience helps you with your problem.
He is unable to unlock the steering wheel using the cigarette lighter adapter that Corvettes Of Houston provided with his CLB.
I advised that he should remove the steering column trim, locate the lock solonoid and tap it with a hammer while connecting the cigarette lighter adapter and hope the motor comes to life one last time to unlock the column.
I verified with him that he does not have a K-harness on his car.
The CLB is not designed to repair a locked column-it,ideally,should be installed before your column lock fails.
Hopefully, you can get it unlocked somehow-make sure there's power to the cigarette lighter (no blown fuse),and at the column lock motor end of the adapter cable-if there is,and tapping the motor with a hammer while power is applied won't make it unlock, you've got a real problem.
I'd like to advise you on what to do if that's the case, but I'm not really sure, maybe someone with more insight will chime in...
with what TraceZ has sugggested. If that fails to work I suggest trying the procedure in the following link. It has worked for most people when the column is locked. You may need to repeat the procedure more than once and do not be afraid to go at the procedure with some aggression.
I resolved the issue, scrolled through the DIC and the volts were reading 11.6; so I left everything hooked up and started the car for about a minute, and then the column lock disengaged. Thank you all for the help this forum is the best.
That cigarette lighter tool burnt the fuses on both of my power ports in my first Z06. The cig lighter tool did work on my second Z06, though. So, like what has been said already, double check the ports to make sure the fuses aren't burnt.
Mean while, what worked for me once was to jolt the steering wheel side to side a couple of good times (in hopes of "squishing" the pin) and then trying to unlock the wheel with the cig lighter.
Tried everything went to dealer they ran the Vin, (since I have owned the car since Nov.) Has all the recalls done the most recent last year when Chev replaced the wiring harness. Dealer says I need to bring it in. Before this happened the steering felt very loose.
This is great since I organized a Caravan to Elkhart Lake ALMS race next Sunday. Don't have time to get my car to the dealer so I will be the bone head driving a Jaguar last car in line of course to Elkhart.
Was tested is in spec, only 2 years old.
I am having the car towed to Bill Kay Chev. in Lisle IL. My car has been in for 3 recalls and has the new wire harness. Other friends of mine in the Corvette Club had the same issue, took it to Bill Kay and they disabled the steering wheel lock signal and reprogramed the PCM.
Hope this is all I need.
Had a 68 C3 that I raced for 10 years and the only time something needed to be fixed is when I blew it up, wore it out or smashed it.
I should have been more specific, the battery should be a minimum of 120 reserve capacity, does yours meet that spec? Did you get a chance to watch the video's above?
Now everything works, they had to replace the steering column lock, steering column tilt, rack, sector/lock bolt/actuator rod.
This was all covered under GM Warranty. They took my car in late Monday morning and it was ready for pick up last night.
