Default Magnesium wheel question 04 vert

Looked at a silver 04 vert today with 15K miles. Wheels were a beige/gold color with "magnesium" imprinted on them. Front wheels also had 6 stick on weights on passenger side and 5 on driver side. Looked crappy with the stick on weights. Any info on these wheels?

They're a $2K factory option and they were more expensive during some earlier years.

The best looking factory C5 wheels IMHO.

Thanks. I wasn't sure about a silver vert/black top with the bronze color wheels. I bet they would look good on red with oak! Do stick on weights have to be used on the magnesium wheels?

I have them on my Sebring Silver/black top 'Vert....looked good.......until about 2pm yesterday when the rear end step out too far, and I bounced off the curbs. Narrow one way street, small 3" curb both sides of the street. Taking a break from just jacking up the Vett, gonna go pull them off in a few minutes. There beyond repair. My stupity caused this. I admit it.

I had my wheel guy mount the weights on the inside of the wheel.

I've never had any C5 magnesium wheels but I've always liked them.

Factory optional wheel. Started out being a $3000 option, then dropped to $2K, $1500 and in '04 were listed as a $995 option (at least according to the Corvette Black Book). Nice looking wheels on certain colors, but they had a tendency to get paint chips pretty easily.

Default They're nice looking wheels...

Lisa, I'm waiting for a set of N73 magnesium wheels to be delivered this coming week. It was one of the few available options that looked good on the '99 Hardtop.

To the contrary, a silver convertible with a black top and bronze-colored magnesium wheels would look great.

The graceful curvature of the extreme magnesium wheel edge, as opposed to having a small raised lip around the circumference (that lip can usually be refinished easily if any curb rash isn't too bad) equates to a wheel that can be damaged a lot with a very slight curb encounter. You just have to be aware of how you're parking at all times and know where that nasty curb is.

Should you decide to purchase the Vette check to see if N73 is among it's RPO codes. Even if it isn't there you'll still have a unique and slick Vette with those wheels.

Let us know how you make out. Good luck.

Bob

Thanks to everyone for the info. I saw the 04 on a stealership lot in Birmingham parked next to it's 08 twin (except for the magnesium wheels on the 04). All those weights jumped out at me. Hubby says I should be in quality control! The 04 is in excellent condition with almost 16,000 miles. I'll keep my red one. It was nice to see the c5 and c6 side by side.
