I'll state in advance that I know this topic has been beaten to death here. I've used the search engine and can't find much information regarding one of the tires that interest me, so that's why I'm posting.
I had originally decided on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus for my C5. While I realize they are pricey, they have a good UTQG number (500AAA) and a 45,000 mile warranty. I'm mostly a touring driver, do some spirited stuff, but this car is used mostly for highway touring and longer trips. The main reason for deciding on the Michelins is their reputation for quiet and longevity, and the fact that I've been satisfied with every set of Michelins that I've owned. In the end I want to do this only once and have my efforts last me for several years.
I've recently seen another tire that I think needs to at least be considered. It's the Continental Extreme Contact DWS. According to Discount Tire, it has a UTQG of 540AA and a 50,000 mile warranty. A set of 4 from them is $122 less than a set the Michelins.
Does anybody have any experience, pro or con, with this tire?
Thanks in advance!
I went with the DWs simply because I didn't think I'd be driving in snow. I don't know about the DWSs but if they're anything like the DWs you'll love them! MY car is now soooo quiet it's like it's brand new. Rides smoothly and corners awesome, even in the rain. (Yes, I drive my vette in the rain.) My wife even noticed how quet and smooth it is and that's saying something.

I have the Continental DWS and I like them a lot, but have only 1000 miles on them. A friend of mine has the Michelins and loves them. Either way you will be happy but for only 122.00 more I would go with the Michelins. My DWS are not runflats, his Michelins are runflats.

Thanks for the reply. The Michelins I am considering are non-runflats.

I have had Michelin PS2's (non runflats) on my car. I got about 20K out of them, they were great. Quiet, sticky and felt good on the car. When I went to replace them, I went with Continental ContiSport Contact3's. I have about 1K on them now. Ride is great, quiet - but I have not pushed them very hard.
Frankly - I don't think you can go wrong with either Michelin or Continental. One thing to consider - when Corvette brought out the ZR1, they went with the Michelin PS2 ZP as the OEM tire. Remember that this is the most powerful and most expensive car GM ever produced....their choice was Michelin.
I've had the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZP run flats on for over two years now. Chose them mostly because I do take the car out in the winter and liked the all season capability plus the run flat insurance. The fact that they are quieter than the OE Goodyear tires was a plus. Pricey but I thought it was worth it.
