Default Do they work???

Do the foglight surrounds with the holes drilled in them actually do anything function-wise or do they just help getting the engine bay dirty.

Some protection for the fogs, airflow and yes.....does help to keep dirt out.

Not sure, however they look cool. I saw a C5 vert at a show a few weeks ago that had them. I know they are required with a Vararam intake, however not sure about other intakes. The Vette I saw had a dual cone intake. I didn't get a chance to talk with the owner, however did notice the foglight surrounds.

The reason I asked was this. I have seen them advertised at different places and I can understand the principle of letting cool air into the engine bay(along with dust and dirt). I just didn't feel like paying for them, so yesterday I swapped out my stainless fog light screens for some black powdercoated ones and while I had it open, I took a 1" hole bit and drilled 4 holes across the surround on both sides. Maybe it will help keep it cooler and allow a little clean air in there, who knows, only time will tell.

Since the C5 is a bottom breather and the C5 Z06 allows additional air through the front screens, I don't think there is an issue with extra dirt coming in due to holes, either manufactured or drilled, in the fog light shrouds.

As mentioned, the Vararam requires it due to it's design, however if it's good enough for the Z06, I'm sure there is some science behind the additional cool airflow coming in.

I just wouldn't buy into any manufacturer's claim of any significant HP increase. Like the Hood Seal!

Really wasn't a waste IMO. Had the drill and bit less than 10 feet from the car and only took me about 2 or 3 minutes to do it, so it can't really hurt anything.

I have Three 1" holes in each side the reason for them is to let cooler air in to the filters. I do know it looks badass and I get compliments at from vette owners all the time. I have a twin K&N filter setup and the only way for it to get air is sucking from the hot engine compartment, the holes feed in fresh cooler air. And I have driven in rain at 75mph for miles with no problems, Unlike the ones that cut the rad cover and suck water in heavy rain and high speed.
