Always good as a last resort though. I think the cheapest part I've gotten there was the sunvisor clip for @ $2.00. 
Any of the good sized chain auto parts stores should have them. Unless you want a billet or carbon fiber gas cap.

You might see if you have a hook to hang the cap on, My 2002 does, Keeps the cap safe and off the paint. My cap won't even reach the door.
I have read where some after market caps can throw a code some times.
Lets see, You are parked next to the pump and putting in gas and a lady wanted to go by?

yeah the reason its next to my door is so its away from my paint... the cap broke in half, the part that goes into the gas tank hole fell off, just the handle that you turn is there... still no error codes though...
