I was putting gas and some lady needed to go by, the gas cap was hanging. I ended up closing the door on it and it broke, i fixed it for now but i do want want a new one.

You might see if you have a hook to hang the cap on, My 2002 does, Keeps the cap safe and off the paint. My cap won't even reach the door.
I have read where some after market caps can throw a code some times.

yeah the reason its next to my door is so its away from my paint... the cap broke in half, the part that goes into the gas tank hole fell off, just the handle that you turn is there... still no error codes though...
