I recently purchased these mint 15 year old BBS Lemans wheels & couldn't be happier with fit & overall look. Does anyone know approx how many of these Lemans wheels were Mfg by BBS during the C5 production years? They seem to be very rare indeed
I think part of the reason you don't see many of them is because they were rather "pricey". I have a set of them on my car now, and had a set of CCWs prior to that. My primary reason for taking the CCWs off, was because at the time, around 2003-2004, CCW was trying to get by with attaching the TPMS sensors to the inside of the front wheels, using epoxy. There wasn't enough room for the sensor to be used in it's intended configuration, with the rim halves that CCW had.
After having my sensors come loose, a couple of times, and going through the hassle of having the run-flat tires dismounted, so I could re-glue them, I decided it was too much hassle, and sold them. I then went with the BBS wheels.....
Good for you, happy to get response back now some 7-8 yrs after these original BBS posts were written. Incredible that when you do Google search BBS Lemans wheels pictures do come up but other than this old thread on CF very little tech info exists. I even wrote to BBS in GA & asked how many of these specific wheels were mfg...hope to get a response. That sounds like a messy half *** design on CCW wheels. I first bought cheap but new TPMS made in Asia fo rthese BBS online but when I then read lot of bad reviews & my tech mechanic said don't even bother installing, I returned them & purchased OEM Delco units instead....And they all reset 100% at installation. Man they are expensive for early year C5 models....paid about $110 each Amazon but worth it and over $200 ea at Chevy dealer parts dept! Have you had much contact with other BBS Lemans wheel owners on the Forum here? Maybe we can get a small group together here for Q/A etc. PS, you mentioned original cost, think I read around $4000 a set back in the day?
