My recently purchased 2002 has a spot on the hood insulation that looks like it has been rubbing on something. I tried to see what might have been rubbing on it, but nothing really lines up with that spot. I have a GM (NOS) on the way, but before I install it, I'd like to know what caused it so it doesn't happen to the new one.
At first I was going to say the air bridge, but it appears to be to the left of the air bridge. Is the air cleaner and bridge nise and secure. If not it may be moving around and hitting it while you are driving.
Put the seller's cell phone number into a local craigslist search and see what kind of aftermarket air intake he sold around the time you bought the car. I can't think of any other reason, unless he replaced the hood or liner from another car with a modded intake.
Get yourself some fiber glass insulation from home depot and some 3m#77 spray adhesive patch it up layer by layer and then paint it black take your time and you 'll be suprised I had a hole in mine when my belt broke and repaired it this way thats my 2 Cents
Just curious 'cause I don't know the first thing about those superchargers...what is that silver piece going in the drivers side of the air bridge of that Z16?
My 02 did the same thing. I have a twin cone intake which I thought was the problem. I secured it with a long tie wrap threaded through the tunnel shroud. The same thing happened again. I started looking at the radiator top shroud and noticed that the plastic studs on either side of the air bridge were not fully engaged in the snaps due to a malformation of the top shroud. I used a heat gun and reformed the top shroud so that it is shaped a little different. The studs now fully engage the snaps and my hood liner has remained unscathed for three years.
Funny how we jump to the conclusion that the previous owner did something they were trying to hide. My car was owned by an older (than me) gentleman before it came to me. He spun himself and his wife around leaving a traffic light in the rain. His option was the car or the wife. He told me that he truly loved the car... but was too old to start over with 35 years of training for his wife. Truly a wise man me thinks.
