Sorry for your loss. I remember Dieseldave56 simply by his forum name. It always struck me funny having "Diesel" in his name on a Corvette forum.
Lots of great advice here, so I will only add one small thing. I was told that before you first start it, to hold your foot to the floor for a few seconds while it is turning over. It won't start when you do this, but it will bring oil up to the top of the engine and reduce friction (wear) when you start it. Then simply take your foot off the gas and it will start as normal. Not sure if this actually does any good, but it seems to make sense and I do it each spring after mine has been sitting for the winter.
Enjoy your drive. Great scenery and a great car to do it in.
Very sorry for your loss. If you feel comfortable, you should definitely drive it. These cars are pretty reliable and will serve you well if they are well maintained as yours appears to have been.
I highly doubt if you will, but if you run into trouble along the way, post up here and you'll get a lot of great advice from some really knowledgeable people.
Dieseldaveswife,
I am so sorry to hear about your loss.
Enjoy your trip in the car and know that Dave will be there with you smiling the whole time.
I ask my wife to take my car out occasionally as I am in Afghanistan. I tell her to not “Baby” it but to be careful. These cars can get out from under you.
She says that she enjoys these little trips because she can feel me sitting right beside her.
Please be careful on your trip and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Thank you so much for your SERVICE to all of us who love this great country of ours...the USA!
I am going to take it easy on this trip and enjoy myself. I'm sure Dave will be sitting right next to me telling me HOW TO DRIVE!!
Something that you may want to keep in mind so that it is not a surprise is that the ride could be a little jittery for a while.
I haven't yet had this experience with my C5 (only owned it for 2+ months) but if my C4 sat for more than a few weeks the tires would have developed a small flat spot where they were in contact with the garage floor. It took several miles of driving to soften/warm up the rubber enough to smooth out. Just a thought.
Enjoy your trip and may the memory of Dave bring you comfort and joy in these difficult early days of his absence.
One more bit of advise is I've heard that year model had oil consumption issues so keep check on the oil level. I talked to a guy the other day that says his 2001 burns a quart every 800 miles and has since it was new. You might want to keep at least 1 extra quart in the trunk.

Dave was very active on the oil consumption issue with the 01 but he had one that does not have that issue..thankfully. He talked with me in great deal about his postings on that issue..wow..I miss those talks. I wish now I would have listened more intently..lol..car guys!
I will keep an eye on it though..thanks for the tip!
I know!!! Man that is such a load off my mind...I can NOT even express my gratitude for the offer to drive all the way to where I am and help me get the car on the road...
There are just NO adequate words so I'll just say...THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
