door wiring question

door wiring question
I've got a 2000 Vert. I'm putting in a Gentex mirror with homelink, temp, compass, auto dimmer and map light. I'm having a problem with the map light. Can anyone tell me what the color the wire is that come out of the door that controls the courtesy lights.
I am supposed to attach the mirror light wire to that wire. It is supposed to go from 12v to 0v when the door opens and then from 0v to 12v when the door closes.
The plastic coverings on the wires are too hard for me to use my voltage meter tester. I've looked at some wiring diagrams available on the web and cannot find the color of the wire. Plus I hate to admit but I can't figure out how the car knows that the door is open. There is no visible switch.
