Default Your thoughts...

Hey everyone,

I will make this fast as possible as I know long treads can get annoying.

Goals; 60% street 40% Track

Looking at either getting a Standard c5z06 or c5.

Get standard or z?

First main question I have that I cant seem to get on my own is, best option for the engine. The rest is easy ie brakes, suspension etc...

Go with the ls1? or ls6? I guess that is my main question. I already plan on yanking out most of the interior and changing 90% of the parts. This is why I don't know if the z06 is worth the extra cash.

Would you rather force induct the ls6? Bore it? Or go with the ls1 and do the same?

Thoughts on my problem would be great. I know I left out a few things but I wanted to get this started asap..

Thanks, from iraq

I recommend that you get something that the top comes off of for the street. So no Z06. But really, I just wanted to thank you for your service. Hang in there. You'll be home soon!

What kind of "track" time are you talking about? Drag or road race? Because if your going to drag buy a coupe. If you're going to road race/hpde the car buy a z06.

Looking to do road race mainly, not so much a drag guy.

TrakJunky, can you go into detail a little more about why the z06? Thanks mate

Thanks BRTC5 I appreciate it.

First off, Thanks for your service. I spent some time in Saudi back in 91-92 and even in post war at that time, I couldn't wait to get out of that sewer....

If you are going to ****** out 90% of the parts, then buy a C5 coupe and the mod away...

Depending on your track goals, you could do H/C/I or FI.
These cars have many different directions you can go depending on your individual goals and budget.

We appreciate your keeping our freedom protected. To me in the C5's for the street, I would suggest looking for something in the 50th Anniversary realm. Either a true 50th Anniversary Edition or any
2003 C5 which is considered a 50th Anniversary model as they come emblazoned with the "50th" emblems in several places on the Vette. I feel these cars because of the uniqueness of the 50th Anniversary are and will be considered 'special' for a long time to come. I am very sure that you will be flooded with all over the place opinions, but I just wanted to share my two cents. Actually any Corvette will do.

Thanks allot for the reply's so far. All have been noted.

Do you know if the standard c5 or even 50th Anniversary have the same transmission and rear end?

Thanks again

90% of the parts? What will be left, one seat belt and the left rear quarter panel?

I'd say get the coupe. If you are going to change out most of the stuff they are cheaper than the z so by saving money there it will allow you to spend a lil more on aftermarket stuff. That's pretty much what I did. Bought a low milage 98 then modded the hell out of it. Where you at in Iraq? I was at Normandy from 08-09

Coupe or a FRC... Stay away from FI if you're going to track it. You should plan on the "Whole Package"... You'll want to upgrade the suspension/tires and BRAKES (Big time) also get a harness bar and 6 point harnesses...

Honestly I wouldn't worry about horse power at first, road racing is addictive as heck, been there doing that! I'd sink my money into the above mods and then buy TRACK TIME, the more the better!

Here's a good read, get some popcorn;
