If it's more of a little "squeak" when you turn the wheel and you're going really slow. It's probably where the steering column comes through the firewall somewhere needs some grease.
If it's a grinding...you need to locate where the noise is coming from. The steering system would be best heard outside of the car with someone else slowly turning the wheel while you poke your head around and listen

Noise can be heard when I am driving slowly making a sharp turn either right or left. Grinding and creaky noise
In my C5 I hear noise when turning sharply left or right. Is this normal? Please advise.
Bob What did this turn out to be? I have a 2003 Z06 with 18,000 miles on it doing the same thing. It sounds like the tire is rubbing the wheelwell but it is not. On mine it does it when turning the wheel to the left all of the way or at least most of the way.
