I did a search and couldn’t find an answer. I have been reading here how important it is to use a torque wrench. Which range of torque wrench is most used and what order should they be purchased? ( 20-150 ft-lbs, 10-75 ft-lbs, 25-250 ft-lbs?)
Thanks, you guys always have the answers.
I have a 20 - 150 Micro-Torque wrench with a 1/2 inch drive and have seldom found a need for anything less that is Ft-Lbs. If you torque your wheels you will need a wrench that does 100Ft-Lbs so I'd stay away from the 10-75 one unless you plan to buy a second one.
There are some 89 inch lb bolts if you change your stat. you can not feel 7.5 ft lbs with a 1/2 in drive ft lb wrench. it's good to have both. the smaller threads can easily be ripped out trying to feel the correct torque.
I would think 20-150 ft pounds would be all you need. If specs are in inch pounds then i believe it is to prevent over tightening, in which a little common sense can go a long way.
What kind of work will you be doing? Lug nuts go to 100 ft/lb. Intake manifold and throttle body are 89 in/lbs (IIRC). I'd try to get overlapping ranges with at least 100 ft/lbs on the high side.
Spindel nuts are 118 lb-ft, so you want at least 150 on the high side. I usually reference in Nm that way you don't have to switch down to in-lbs from ft-lbs for the light torques.

Just bought a 1/2" drive 20-150 ft-lbs torque wrench from Harbor Freight. Used on my lugs and it worked great! Regular price is about $30 but if you watch the coupon ads, I've seen it for as little as $12.99. I am buying some at that price for Christmas gifts.
