This would be a cool conversion on one of the later C4's with an LT4 maybe or maybe a C4-ZR1.
Let me get this straight..this guy recommends a crossfire, and trashes the ZR-1s.............
This ignorance is strong in this one OB1

You really don't seem to know much about the ZR1, do you?

Looks fine to me. IF the one the OP is looking at is in pretty good shape, not much risk in spending $4K.

It doesnt look right =/ The wheels are placed wrong and the body hangs weird. Like a radio controlled car. Its like those Lambo kits on Fieros. At first glance from a distance its like "oh nice". Then you look closer and go "...ewwww, that looks awful"

For a 4k car though...I guess its not bad if everything functions properly.

That's the seller's problem, not the OP's!

UPDATE:

Well, the seller calls me at 6:30 this morning and informs me that his car was not running right and he did not want me to waste a trip out there to see his car (strange way of doing business if it was me selling). But anywho, I guess he's not hurting for $'s...

I wasn't gonna beg him to show me his ride, so I told him okay, and if he has time some other day when he can get it started to give me a call. I checked the local craigslist just now and he's removed it, maybe he decided to keep his car. Not sure...

But my initial thoughts were if it ran okay, was put together okay, $4K was not too much money to throw it's way. And a good starter vette for my son. But looks like it didn't happen that way. Maybe it was for the best...

I wish I'd have saved a picture of the actual car, but I didn't. It looked okay, dark blue w/ 50th anniversary style silver stripes. It had the C5Z wheels....grant it, I know it isn't a C5. I already have my C5, so I was just looking at this like a toy. I could spend $4K easy on a decent camaro or something, figured a vette would be much better!

Oh well, like I said maybe it's for the best... Thanks to all for your responses!

Look in the C4 section. Theres a nice black 6 speed with 17k miles for $10,500. C4's are excellent cars and reliable as well. Ive had 4 of them. My son has one also. Hes 22 and in the Marine Corps. He's been all across the country in it with the only major problem a fuel pump which he fixed on his own & believe me, he's not real skillful with a wrench.

If you want a fixer upper thats running and looks good, I saw one for $2500. Also a stick and looks to be in ggod shape. Needs a little TLC, but all there.

Dont listen to anyone saying the C4 is a bad car. Its not at all. They have regular used car issues. Otherwise theyre great bang for the buck.

Well IMO,,you just dodged a bullet!!! With the kit and other changes,,it's worthless as a C4,,and even MORE worthless as a C5!! I wouldn't have offered more than a couple grand if that!! This is a case of a car that is worth less than the sum of it's parts!! Lord only knows HOW much time and money you'd spend just to make it decent,,and even then it may not be worth 4 or 5 grand. If you got it REALLY cheap(1 or maybe 2K) and just wanted a toy to play,,maybe race it etc.,,maybe. After you spent the mentioned time and money,it would again be worth lots less than invested!! I'd only consider it if YOU are good at 1-body work,,2-paint work,,3-mechanical restoration and 4- electrical work!! Even doing ALL this yourself,,it still won't be worth the actual dollars invested!! IMO,,save your money for a while,,and get something workable that you could maybe break even with!! Kinda like guys that do fabulous restorations or customs,,invest 100-150K in,,send it to Barrette-Jackson and get 50 k for it,,and have to pay 8% of that in auction fees!! My 2 cents!!

That doesn't mean they aren't awesome vettes, just likw C4s replaced C3s. It's just the way the vette market has always been.
Yes but those C3s were $5000 in 1990 dollars, which is a hell of a lot more in value today than $7000. My parents bought their 3300 sq ft house with 8 acres in SoCal for $150,000 in 1985 and during the peak it was worth $895,000. I pretty confident we've seen almost the bottom of both the C4 and C5 market. When the economy rebounds we might actually see them all start going back up, while the C6s drop like a rock.

BTW I can't touch a C3 in decent shape for anywhere near $7000 now and most of the C5s I've seen sell in the low teens were pretty rough. We'll see though.

Yes, definitely a moronic comment. Here is a thought starter for those interested in value of these cars. Take a look at the Kelly Blue Book values for a 95Z, an 04 Z06 CE, and an 06 Z06. Assume all cars are 5000 mile garage queens, in excellent shape, and are private party sales:

Year............Current KBB Value............Original Sticker............Retained value %
1995 Z..............$46,135.................. ......$68,993.....................66.9%
2004CE.............$29,310.............. ..........$55,285.....................53 .0%
2006 Z..............$44,250.................. ......$65,800.....................67.0%

The numbers are also interesting if we take the original sticker price and adjust for inflation:

Year............Current KBB Value............Original Sticker............Retained value %
1995 Z..............$46,135.................. ......$100,591....................45.8%
2004CE.............$29,310.............. ..........$65,125.....................45 .0%
2006 Z..............$44,250.................. ......$71,985.....................61.5%

So, not trying to put any car down (because the 04 Z06s are great cars too), the 95 Z not only is worth more than an 04 Z06 and an 06 Z06, but has depreciated less than an 04 Z06 even though it has been around for 9 more years.

Consider - depreciation per year (using inflation adjusted number):

1995 ZR-1 - 3.3%
2004 Z06 CE - 6.9%
2006 Z06 - 7.7%

To me, it looks like the 95 ZR-1 has indeed hit collector car status with these types of numbers.
