Default Service ABS

Finally found a used ebcm for my 2000 C5 and it shut off those annoying lights and service ride control message... well...for a while...Now when I hit a bump the light comes on and says service abs..The only difference is now i can reset codes and its ok until the next bump... Any suggestions????

I know you must know this already...but...you did go over and check all the grounds (particularly the two on the frame rails in front) and also your battery (state and cables) right?

Also check the connector at the wheel bearings. The sensor for wheel speed is in that bearing and there is a pigtail coming from it then routed to the ebcm. Your codes should tell you which wheel is out of spec.

Yup, I missed that. Its a regular clip off connector at each wheel. In the past I got mine to stop throwing codes by removing the clip, cleaning it well, a little tune up grease, and plug back in . . .no codes.

"All that glitters is not gold" and I guess "All that illuminates the little swervy vette icon is not the EBCM" (just screwing around), but above poster is right, the codes may point you in the right direction.

My EBCM was changed twice, once to an OEM (car place I bought car from paid) then later when it went again I sent it out to ABS Fixer. No codes for a long time, recently started seeing the dash icon again (very seldom, just shut off and restart and it went away, never came on when driving, just when started from cold and going from reverse backing out of garage to drive).

I recently installed an HID system so I had to grab a ground, I pulled the one on the R frame rail, cleaned it up and connected the lights there. Since I worked on that ground I havent seen the AH/TC dash indicator come on. Just a thought.

Good luck

go to the c5 tech forum and click on bill curlee's post on electrical problems. It's at the top in the stickys. I did it and it solved all my problems, it was easy to do also. Like Cmike said it's the grounds.

Well, I looked up your codes and it looks like good news/bad news...

C1225: RF wheel sensor...probably just the wiring harness might be loose or bad, you'll
need to take off the wheel to get to it unless you have a lift. I replaced wiring
harness on mine, $75 from GM.

C1281: Steering sensor uncontrolled malfunction...hope it's not the steering wheel sensor
...the sensor is pretty cheap, but I hear it's 2 hours labor from GM

Try fixing the RF wheel sensor first and see what happens, maybe that will clear up the other code as well.

Good Luck,

Good Luck,
Whats odd about the codes is that they always go on together...now sure how they are connected except through the grounding system ..ive cleaned the two by the headlight adjustment but didnt help

Why did you swap out the computer, because you could not re-set the codes?

I'm pretty certain it's a loose or bad harness on your front right wheel but mine was on the left side and I looked up my old notes on same, I never pulled up that steering wheel
code at the same time. In any event, I would attack the wheel sensor first, and hope
the steering wheel code goes away with it.
