Default Side trim removal

2001 Vette, Navy Blue... Has the factory side trim, and I don't like it.

However, I'm worried that if I remove it (even meticulously), it'll be obvious.

I guess I wouldn't worry if it was white or yellow, but I'm concerned there might be a difference in the paint color UNDER the trim.

Any thoughts? Has anyone here removed theirs after several years?

(I'll admit, I really want to replace the trim with a set of the side gills, or just leave it blank...)

You'll never know for sure since everyone's vette has had different exposure to the elements over the years so, my suggestion is to remove the small piece in front of the door. Clean up the area where it was removed; polish, wax, etc. If you see a difference in the paint coloring, get some of the tape used to apply it and put it back.

Just removed mine last month on a used white 97. Can't tell anything was ever there.

rickko's suggestion is an excellent idea, and exactly what I did.

I used 30lb test monofilament, others have used dental floss.

I agree with what the others have said, When I did mine I had an extra set of hands to pull the molding back a bit as I took the fishing line and cut away, It didn't take long to remove them, I did buy a heat gun and it really helped, The hard part was removing all the leftover tape.

Before shot

If the car has ever been painted and they did not remove the trim you'll have a problem.

Default side molding

Wish i could take mine off but the car was repainted w/them on so i'd be up a certain creek w/o a paddle..good luck and the molding-less look is soooo much better.

That's the best way to see how it might look.

Hey Mr Bill, if you would have left the BSM's on, you would not have that hole in your door now BTW did you get that fixed yet

Thanks Bill.

OK, that does it - I'm gonna take a crack at it on my next free weekend.
