You'll never know for sure since everyone's vette has had different exposure to the elements over the years so, my suggestion is to remove the small piece in front of the door. Clean up the area where it was removed; polish, wax, etc. If you see a difference in the paint coloring, get some of the tape used to apply it and put it back.

I agree with what the others have said, When I did mine I had an extra set of hands to pull the molding back a bit as I took the fishing line and cut away, It didn't take long to remove them, I did buy a heat gun and it really helped, The hard part was removing all the leftover tape.
use a hair dryer and 3m adhesive removal . i did this method and only needed my finger nail. as for the 'gills' ............well that might impress the high school boys.
Wish i could take mine off but the car was repainted w/them on so i'd be up a certain creek w/o a paddle..good luck and the molding-less look is soooo much better.
