Just make sure that it is exactly what you want. I love mine but I keep looking at the forum wishing that I had bought one with either this or that option. Like has been said before, you are in the drivers seat when it comes to price.
Update: Talked to the sellers on Saturday about the car... Everything OK. Car is still on the I-net for sale Sunday night. Make the 2 hr drive down to look at the car today and pull into the lot.................................. Car is GONE!
Tell them who I am and ask about the Vette...."Oh we sold it saturday..." says the lady. "You gotta be kidding me! Thanks for the phone call..." I Turn around and walk out....
Oh well, I guess it wasn't meant to be.... So now I'm going Wed to look at another 99, this one has 35K so I'm even more excited now.... If I can get down to see it in time....
I bought my Vette just before someone drove from Little Rock to Dallas to look at it. I felt kind of bad about it, but then again, he was a dealer looking to buy for his lot. Business as usual.

I have a little over 170,000 miles on my 2003 coupe. It is a daily driver. I take good care of it, change the oil according to the DIC, etc.
I had the rear differential leak fixed under warranty. I had the water pump replaced twice. Once by the dealer (*** raping), once by myself (easy job). A week ago I had the front seal, harmonic balancer, oil pan seal, and rear main seal replaced ($1840.00). That's it...other than tires, brake pads, oil, a coolant change or two, and one or two spark plug changes.
The summer of 2009 I hydroplaned it off the highway at 60+ miles per hour into some trees. It held up great and kept me safe. I had most of the body panels replaced and painted, no frame or mechanical damage. In fact, I had a tow truck fish it out of the woods and I drove it for two days before taking it to get fixed. Seriously, this thing is a beast.
hit some ice doing 50mph and spun the car backwards into a curb which then threw me about 20 yards into a ditch. Both me and the car came out unscathed. other than the rear wheel which hit the curb.
I bought my 98, TOTALLY STOCK and paid on the high end of book. It only had 17k miles, not a single scratch, c/d changer still wrapped in factory plastic, and as clean under as it is on top. The only "mod" is a Optima Yellow Top battery and the CLB so I don't have to walk.
I wouldn't be afraid about buying a 97-2000 if I was in the market again. I made basically the same "Should I?" post as you did and received tons of great info from 99.9% of forum members, only to get that .01% on negative everything regarding the year, potential problems, and saying I paid too much..
... Good luck!
Here is my latest addition.
