Default Antenna question

Finally got the 01 Z06 on the road today and have located all the necessary parts Dave had for it with the exception of the radio antenna. Do you have any recommendations on a good antenna and also possibly where I could purchase it? Also wondering if
the shorter versions have good reception?
Any suggestions?

Thank you for all of your help so far.
Carolyn

Good question, I'd like to find a shorter version mysel as mine hits the bottom of my lift when I pull it in. A shorter version would be nice.

Cut yours to desired length with a hacksaw. Put the tip of the piece you cut off between 2 pieces of wood in a vise. Grab section of antenna with vise-grips, twist and pull, and the little ball will come off. File down end of antenna with the screw base, where it will make a tight fit into the ball, and tap with a hammer, using a piece of wood as a cushion.

Shazaam, one free shorty antenna, like mine. 10" base to Tip.

question is do you have any reception issues because of the chopped mod?

I've read several members having slight issues after doing this. Sort of why I haven't done it, but seeing as my budget for mods is almost non existant, I might be doing this.

I bought a cheap ebay retractable about 3 years ago when some miscreant destroyed my shorty one. Still going strong and I can actually use a car cover.

I would love to have the retractable version. Was it difficult to install?

I haven't any issues, but I do believe there is a slight loss of reception as I think the optimum length is 32"-36". I live in an area with no shortage of FM stations, and when I'm traveling thru sparse areas the CD player gets used. I won't go back to the stock antenna.

Thanks for the info. I will buy a smaller one..I think they're 14 inches. Looking at the billet type.
I cannot find the stock antenna..I know it's here somewhere but I just cannot locate it.
