This is probably a lame question, but, here it is anyway. Do you (vert owners) keep your top up or leave it down when not in use. Say, you park it for a few days and don't use it. Does it matter as far as the life of the top?
Thanks

Keep mine stored with the top up and locked and the windows rolled up. Doesn't get as dusty that way. I don't think I would want to keep the top stored in the down position all the time.

Generally, when the car is going to be parked for more than a day or so, I put the top up and windows up. Dust control......and it helps keeping the wrinkles from forming on the top.
When the top is down it is folded fairly tightly. I would think for long term storage, putting it up would be better but who knows... My top is 10 years old and still in great condition after being put up and down probably a thousand times.. Also dust and critters can not get in as easily when the top is up and the windows closed..
I had a mouse get into my trunk for a few days last winter while the top was down.. Luckily all he was munching on was some paperwork..
my dad had a mercedes 560SL, which has a soft top as well as a removable hard top. He would leave the hard top on for 3 seasons out of the year and then use the soft top during the summer. The soft top didnt suffer any ill effect from being folded for months on end (though the dealer did tell us to open it up least every once in awhile). Definitely dont fold the top down when its still wet though, if you plan to leave it folded for any length of time.
Mine is a garage queen. Only gets driven about 20-40 miles once a week. Top is down all the time except when I park it in a lot or on the street the one day a week it gets driven. When I get back to the car I'll either put the top down then or wait till I get back to the garage. Dust is not a problem 'cuz I touch it up with a California Duster then cover the car until I take it out the following week.

PS. Car was built in Jan of '04 so its top is 6.5 yrs old now. It still looks factory new when its up. There are no permanent creases or worn spots for being down 99% of the time.

Not trying to be a wize a$$, But don't you like your C5? Only drive it once a week and maybe 20-40 miles.
I guss what I am trying to ask is why not drive it? Just wondering.

If it's in the garage the top is always down. If I'm longer than 15 mins I'll put the top up on the street. I have a black top and it fades sitting in the Hawaii sun

Don't have a vert, but if I did, I would probably stow the top in the up position when not driving the car. Besides keeping the dust out of the interior, it also helps minimize any wrinkles in the top fabric.
Mine is always down unless I'm washing the car. I've had zero issues with it and it still looks new. I've never driven it with the top up so I can't even comment on that experiance...
I only leave the top down if I know I'll be driving around "top down" for a couple of days. Otherwise, the top and windows go up. Even with my indoor cover on the car, I found that dust had a way of seeping into the cockpit if the top stayed down long enough. A lot of wind in Oklahoma and the dust flies incessantly.

Unless I park it somewhere then I'll put the top up, otherwise down in the garage with the cover on unless it's enjoying some days off
