Well, the question is answered in my mind. I have for the last year read all the comparisons I could get my eyes on between the Z06 and Dodge Viper. I've own my 2001 Z06 for a little over a year now and love it. My other dream car I hoped to own one day was the Dodge Viper. As of a week ago Sunday I'm lucky enough to be the owner of both of my dream cars. A 2002 red Dodge Viper RT10 and a 2001 black Chevrolet Corvette Z06. I've observed when driving the Viper it difinitely attracts more attention than does Z06 and it is a blast to drive, but there's no real comparison in my mind the Z06 rules the road. Maybe the 2003 Viper will be more of a contender... we'll see.

A comparison that I use is .. the Corvette is like your wife. You love her, she loves you.. forgives you and understands your strengths and weaknesses. The Viper is a mistress..

I know what he's saying about drawing attention. Was recently at a track with the Z. For a while the black car was getting all the googly eyes and a lot of people saying hellow and asking questions.

The a black Viper Coupe ACS (ASC?) parked across from us. ZAP, the crowds moved on, the gawkers were drawn to the car like moths to a - you know.

The Viper certainly has a look to it. Love that long nose and front end. It even sucked me in for a look and listen to the owner answering questions.

Strange to think that car carries the same brand as the '64 Dart I owned back in 1975. Can't imagine a greater transformation of a company. What an interesting car (the Viper, not the Dart).

 

I've got an 02 Z06, my brother has a Viper GTS. I've driven both cars and I disagree with Afy on most of his points. He sounds like someone who is just a bit jealous of the Dodge.

I did own a '00 GTS untill I totalled it in November last year. I drove it about a thousand miles a month on an average, and did everything from drag racing to autocrossing it.. even drove in the rain a few times.. :cheers:

Seems strange that someone who owned a Viper GTS would call it a "clown shoe".

You think that the Z06 seats are better than the GTS seats? My Z06 seats have very little lateral support.

My 02 Z06 is not quieter than a Viper GTS. Didn't you post that you were disappointed in your Z06 for the following reasons:

Don't get me wrong, I really like the Z06, but I would not go as far as saying it is a better, more fun, car than a GTS.

in a way yes.. I use mine to hold change for the tolls.. and being a smoker or at least one while I had the viper I couldnt use the ashtray or lighter..
that did **** me off a little..

But how many miles do you have in the clownshoe? I hated the little backrest switch, and the rubber inflater from a 70's BP machine..

The GTS scared the hell out of me initially.. untill I got the hang of it. Then I became cocky and paid the price.

The one are where the clownshoe excells is crash worthiness.. I would much rather not crash.. but if I had to do it in a car .. well the viper would be my choice..

Also in all fairness the clownshoe has a ton of advantages.. and areas of excellence. The acceleration in the car is brutal.. and never ceased to amaze me.. I actually grew to love the car.. and might in a year or so get another one.

The GTS is a unique car.. and nothing comes close to it.. but like all things has its foibles and eccentricities.. :cheers:

 

Also yes I am dissapointed in the Z06.. it has waay too many quirks for my liking.. even compared to the regular C5's..

Personally I dont think that these should be there.. but that is me. I dont like cars rattling.. seats rocking.. running hot.. the stereo sounding worse than it does on a coupe..

but what do you want to prove.. :confused: :confused:

Right now for me.. the Z is a better choice.. so I have one.. :cheers:

Afy you state that you have an 01 Z06, now I'm not calling you a liar but the 01 doesnt have HUD, unless you put in an aftermarket unit.

As far as raw performance the Viper would take the cake. I'm glad to hear the vette has some other great qualities other than it's performance :cheers:
