Default Front Brake Pad Clip

Finally getting around to trying to fix what seems like excessive drag from the brakes (mostly fronts, it appears).

Just before the drag issue I replaced all pads and rotors using Hawk HPS. I am now going back through and redoing everything to make sure it was all done right the first time.

The Hawk pads have a tab on the outside/top of the pad. The caliper has a clip that is in the top/center of the caliper. When installing the caliper with the pads on place, this clip exerts pressure on the tab of the pads making the caliper just a little more difficult to install (no big deal).

The questions are:

Do the stock pads have that tab?

I'm assuming the clip is to hold the pads in place to prevent rattle?

I don't think it would, but could that clip be putting too much force on the pads preventing them from backing off and causing the drag?

And finally, could you run without that clip and just live with a little rattle?

I have opinions on each question but I'd love to hear the opinions of the experts (and everyone else) from the forum.

Thanks
Rory
