I see the vette as more of a hobby and something fun. Its easy to work on yourself and fairly cheap. I dont think many exotic car ppl can be to into the cars too much because they cant do things to them. Iv never heard of someone painting the interior of a ferrari, or swapping out tailights. Just my 2 cents
I got mine for prestige and fun - and only the "BEST" built sportscar in the nation
Really I like the styling and history and Heritage of the Corvette - there is a huge market for the fun stuff for them and you can work on them yourself
"Exotic" is based on local custom. My wife is in Ireland right now where everything is 4cyl. She saw 1 C5 Vette the other day and mentioned that her husband had one which led to her being the main focus of conversation on the street. Everyone was impressed to no end that she had an "EXOTIC" sports car at home in her garage.
The only reason I got mine is because it's a compact 2-seater with good gas mileage for commuting to work. It's a good thing it didn't make my ***** get any larger.
Theirs people out there that have the same mindset about corvette owners, that we are snobby/stuck up people. I mean yeah a C5Z or C6Z can beat a porsche or ferrari for half the price.
But guess what??
Their are cars out there that can beat a C5Z or C6Z for half the price. Slap a big turbo(s) on a supra or 240 and you will be able to beat a C5Z or C6Z for half the price... Same crap different pile.
All in all if someone wants to blow $100k on a car... so be it. If they bought it just to feed there ego and to show off how much money they have then I would just laugh at them and walk away. BUT... if someone buys a $100k car because thats what they actually want and are knowledgeable about the car then thats a whole different story.

The mindset I keep hearing is 'midlife crisis', or 'old man'!!!

but these cars are NOT vettes!!! My friend thinks it's a big deal that his DIESEL truck will beat my Vette....woopdy doo!! It's still a TRUCK!
Bet there are a LOT more 100,000 mile plus vettes running around than there are of the other exotics!!! While there are a lot of "waxer " vettes,,there are STILL a lot of well driven vettes!! Bet there aren't a lot of 100,000 mile Lambos out there!!!
GREAT POINT ! The C5 is/can be a great daily driver. My 1998 Coupe is, and with 128,000 miles I have had only 2 problems; 1 oil pressure sensor and one headlight gear. Very reliable. Great mileage also.
Not many sport cars, let alone exotics, that can claim that !

To me, it doesn't matter why the exotic car owners bought the car they did - they had the money and got what they wanted. I got mine because (1) I could afford it and (2), because it suits my need for performance, looks and overall value.
We all have our own reasons to buy and drive our rides. Boys will buy toys and nothing will ever change that..
I love corvettes but if I could buy anything I wanted, I'd get a ford GT but that $150k is not in my budget. So I'll dream on and love my C5 everyday... Lottery tickets???? LOL
