Default Diablosport Question

I have a 2002 Z06 with a Vararam CAI. I am interested in purchasing a programmer and it seems the Diablosport has a good dedicated unit for the LS6 engine. Found new unit for $274.95 at LM Performance. Is this unit the best bang for the bucks and does it do most of the basic tuning necessary. I do a few drag and autocross events each year and would like to tweak up some of the settings for those events and go back to near stock when not racing for smoother idle and better fuel mileage. Any input would be appreciated and specs to program in if I buy the item. Thanks Ian

The Diablosport will pretty much cover some of your basic tuning mods. I've used mine often to change some of the tuning parameters without having to send the computer out or take it to a tuner. Most recently reprogramming for a gear change I made. Well worth the money in my book ..

I used the Diablo on my Vararam CAI on my 02 vert before I installed the V-2. Just upload the tune, then data log to set your LTFT's and check your KR at WOT and leave it. I autocrossed with this set up and drove it as my DD with no down side. You would get a more pronounced difference in the tune if you had an A4.

I have been pleased with the results I have experienced. Nice mild tune, fans seem to go on and off better, shift pattern better (auto) and when I changed gears was the perfect quick solution for the speedo and shift.

I use mine more as a code reader than anything else, dont really know how to change anything else with it other than the pre-set tune.

I think the best bang for the buck is EFILive, We have one and it will do everything and then some, Big learning curve using it though.

For what they are they are pretty nice units. Real time data as well as logging on the new units. Easy to use and if you want to go with a real tune later just restore your backup and sell the tuner like I did.

DiabloSport is excellent. Get it. If you add more mods later, you can always get a dyno tune if necessary. It gave me almost .3 at the strip.

Just out of interest what is the price comparison between purchasing a tuner vs going somewhere for a tune?

I paid around $270 for my DiabloSport and $700 for a speed density dyno tune. A basic mail order tune should be around $300 or so.

I'm happy with the Pred on my 02Z.

Installed canned tune + tuned out cags,COT,adjusted fans and got my LTFT's in the 0/+2 range.

What temp did you adjust your fans to with the Predator?

With a 180* stat I set mine to Fan 1 on at 186* off at 179*
Fan 2 on at 195* off at 187*

Car runs 190* with idle being 192* to 194* Sometimes I see cruising temps of 189* but usually the rpms need to be up higher to see 189*

As far as the Predator goes I like mine. Set everything the way I wanted it and since I have an older revision I tuned out the rear O2 sensors after I did the header install. Bought it here used for under $200. on the for sale section.

My 02Z usually runs in the 185-187 range with stock stat.Don't recall the exact #,but I think both are on @ 205 & off @ 195.

Yep. My fans were set up to come on around 187 degrees. I asked the tuner about this (because I could have sworn the Predator was a little lower w/ the performance tune). He said that the LS1 is prone to moisture and 187 is an optimal temp to run the engine.

I still have my Predator and can make adjustments on top of my dyno tune which is nice! I like it A LOT.

With the Diablo, you can also send your data logs out to a custom tuner and get even more performance than the standard Diablo tune. Check out the forums on Diablo's website. Send your data log via email, get the new tune via email, load tune from computer to handheld unit, load tune to car. The Diablo really is a versatile unit. I love it!!

It is a great tool. I needed it when I changed gears and then loaded the performance tune. Mine is for sale here:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-p...tor-u7198.html

I am selling it for a $240 because I needed a dyno tune after adding a cam and heads.

Unit is unlocked, 5 months old (latest version) and INCLUDES the $30 computer cable.

PM me if interested.

The Fan speeds are lowered quite a bit from factory settings. I noticed that Fan 2 lowers from 235 to 205. Fan 1 from 226 to 196. That's 30 degrees for each. I modified them to 217 for Fan 2 and 208 for fan 1. That is about the middle of the 2 tunes. I think the fans would be running all the time with the performance tune. Correct me if I am wrong. I am guessing I may run into some pinging. If so I will lower them back.

I have a 6 speed manual and I will say the car feels much faster at WOT and so far I am very happy with the tune.
BTW I also bought a 160 thrmostat but have decided not to use it. I am going to go with a 180 so if anyone wants to trade....
