I bought a set of headers and x-pipe for my C5 and was wondering if I put them on myself how high does the car need to be off the ground. I don't have a lift so I will be doing this the old fashioned way, on my back...LOL
measure the headers at its longest point. Thats at least how much ground clearance you need! Find a lift. It takes me 4-5 hours to install a set with a lift, I'd expect another 2 hours on the ground.
Not your average jack stands. Need to get your car up approximately
24".
No big deal. I purchased h/d jack stands from Sears quite a few years ago just for jobs like those.
Good luck.
There are at least two current header install threads in the Tech section.
Thanks I will check that out.

I did mine on jack stands in my garage and just worked on it with my son a couple hours each day after work. Took me about 4 days doing it that way but I was in no hurry. Not all the time is on your back, you'll also be removing and re-installing things from up top as well. I actually don't think I spent more then two hours total on my back under the car and that includes swapping out the tunnel plate with a thicker ceramic coated one.

That sounds good, I plan on my son helping me also he just don't know it yet. I found a good write up on how to do it with jack stands and it doesn't look to be to bad. I don't drive mine everyday so if it takes a few days then taht is fine also.

I did it on jackstands in my driveway in a weekend. I could have done it faster but really just took my time with everything and had fun with it. Gook Luck with the install.
We did mine last week on jack stands. You will need about 24" like stated above. If i would have had all the correct parts we would have been done in about 5 hours, but then again i had a GM mechanic helping me.
