Default Anybody running a hard-wired FM modulator?

I currently have no interest in swapping out the OEM deck as it is quite sufficient at what it does. I toyed with the idea of purchasing an iPod adaptor, but I passed on that notion because I enjoy using my HTC EVO as my media player.

In my previous vehicles, I would purchase and install a relativity cheap ($20-$30) FM modulator (see picture above) with great success. Since the FM signal was “forced” into the deck with the antenna cable, interference was a non-issue and audio quality was as good as the OEM or aftermarket decks could provide.

So, I am curious to see if any C5’ers out there are using a generic FM modulator with their music playback devices and how happy the are.

… Before I forget to ask, are there any 12V leads that are ONLY hot when the key is in accessory mode or car is running going into the OEM deck? It will making powering the device a lot easier if I could piggyback the positive lead of the modulator onto a lead going into the deck. It would keep the wires behind the deck and not require me to run a cable down to the fuse box.

You really should use the zune/mp3 kits i have

pxdx/pxhgm2 for install to changer
http://www.doubledmods.com/ZUNE-C5-C...HGM2-pxdx2.htm

pxdx/pxhgm4 for back of radio
http://www.doubledmods.com/ZUNE-C5-C...HGM4-pxdx4.htm

79.99 shipped
will work on an ipod as well via the 3.5mm jack like you were using headphones on the ipod.

if you really want an fm moulator i have a few of them as well.

BearsFan, I have bookmarked the shortcuts if I decide to go that route.

Anyone else running a FM modulator? Also, any 12+ leads that are hot only when car key is in ACC mode or car is running going into the OEM dec.

Try the yellow wire in the passenger footwell. It is above the silver box (BCM) and fused on fuse 11.

i had used the freq modulator for a sirius "add-on" receiver before doing the double din mod from dennis (highly recommended by the way) with no problem (it was one specifically for sirius). you will need to buy one specific to the wonderful GM antenna lead end connector or you will need one of the "adaptor" cables to convert the OEM GM antenna end to a conventional sized one and then back out to the rear of the radio (2 adaptors required for the "in" lead to the converter and the out end to the OEM radio). i live in a high density (radio station wise) area, and never had a problem with it worked perfectly locally and on longer trips. i went that way initially because i used to move the add on receiver from car to car and it only required the modulator and a dock in each vehicle i wanted to use it in. if you don't want to go through some audio mod, i would recommend it as an effective alternative.

So, in my case, would I be going with the PXHGM4 since I have a Z06 with no CD changer option?

Also, you said that I can use the device with both an iPod and a standard 3.5MM jack. Does that mean the $79.99 price includes both the iPod jack adaptor and the 3.5MM adaptor?

EDIT: After re-reading your post, it now makes sense. What you are saying is that the 3.5MM adaptor can be used on any device including the iPod... Gotcha.

My first question still stands.
