i have a c5 6 speed, cars runs perfect but when shifting from 1st to 2nd it will not go in gear if the rpms are between 1500 and 2000, shifts perfect every other gear or even 1400 and below or 2000 and above, what could be wrong?

It's an aftermarket part that you install there around $50.00 i think, i can't believe others haven't chimed in on this! i have only heard of this from being on this forum, do that search i told you about or go to one of the vendors like Corvette garage, Corvette guys, Corvette America, West coast Corvette's etc etc, but do theat search!!!

"Skip Shift" is also known as Computer Assisted Gear Selecton or CAGS. It is one of the ways GM avoided a gas guzzler tax on Corvettes from the C4 through the C5. No idea if the C6 has it.

Basically under certain conditions it forces you to shift from 1st to 4th.

One to Four Shift Light
(Manual Transmission)
1 TO4
SHIFT
When this light comes on, you can only shift from FIRST (1) to FOURTH (4) instead of FIRST (1) to SECOND (2).

You must complete the shift into FOURTH (4) to turn off
this feature. This helps you get the best possible fuel economy.

After shifting to FOURTH (4), you may downshift to a lower gear if you prefer.

Notice: Do not try to force the shift lever into SECOND (2) or THIRD (3) when the 1 TO 4 SHIFT light comes on. Do not try tore -engage FIRST (1) after starting to shift into FOURTH (4). You will damage
your transmission.

Shift only from FIRST (1) to FOURTH (4) when the light comes on.

This light will come on when: The engine coolant temperature is higher than 169°F (76"C), and you are going 15 to 19 mph (24 to 31 km/h) and you are 21 percent throttle or less.
So you can:
  1. Press the gas pedal a little harder
  2. Buy a plug in bypass
  3. Have the feature turned off by a tuner

you can also cut the wires (at the transmission) that lead to the skip shift solonoid. Solder in a 2.2K ohm resistor to the wiring harness.
