Insist on a replacement, and new, not refurbished or used. I recently had a very minor hit on the right rear corner of my car, didn't look too bad at all. First of all the energy absorbing foam underneath needed to be replaced, it was damaged. Secondly, the insurance company wanted the shop to use refurbished bumpers from a supplier. Upon painting both replacements poor quality work showed up when being painted before the parts even got installed on my car. The body shop insisted on and got me a brand new GM OEM rear bumper and fender. My car is now exactly like new and you could never tell there was any damage, except for the fact that I have a Z06 and the antenna was removed and the hole filled.
Long story short, someone backed their trailer hitch into the rear bumper of my Z. We got his insurance info and they are going to pay, but they only want to pay to repair the bumper, not replace it. I am worried that long term, with it being plastic, it might flex and possibly crack at the repair location. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about this subject?
Any way i would have it fixed, It would have to be fixed so it had the same look to the corvette it had befor it ever got backed into.
Thats just how i am with my car..I would not even want to know are see were it was backed into when the job was done.
But i can feel what you must be going threw..But thats why we have insurance so just stay on their a## and make suer its done right and makes you happy with the job thats been done.
Or dont take your corvette out of the body shop tell its just right.. Good luck.
