How hot did it get??? Cooling fans come on in stages. When mine is idling in traffic, it will get a little over 220. You can simply turn the a/c on, and a cooling fan will come on at 219, and drop the temp. They can run up in the 230-245 range, they say don't worry until 250, but I think that is too hot.

You might see if their is debris clogging the radiator, they suck up quite a bit of junk. Good luck!

You might want to check in the tech section, and search for overheating.

You would not believe the amount of CRAP a C5 will suck up off the ground that will block your radiator screens and cause overheating. Here's a list of stuff I'd check (in order)

Clean Radiator Screens - If this is the first time you've done it, you should really remove the radiator and clean it really well. Won't be necessary to completely take it out every time if you do it relatively regularly.

Burp the coolant system - Probably won't fix anything unless you've either changed or added fluid recently but worth a try. I can't remember the procedure offhand but you should be able to find it by searching.

Test the Thermostat - I've heard of a few T-Stats going bad on C5's. Have someone pull yours out and throw it in some boiling water to see if it's stuck.

Fans - Check to make sure the fans are coming on when they're supposed to. Don't quote me on this, but I think the first one comes on at 205 degrees and the second comes on at 220 degrees. Those numbers don't look right to me, but again I can't remember offhand... I'm sure someone will correct me.

Water Pump - Mine went bad a couple of months ago. I replaced it with a unit I bought new from Advance Auto Parts at a considerable savings over OEM.

After that it gets to be not as much fun... I guess next on my list would be a blown head gasket. Do you see bubbles in the coolant reservoir while the car is overheating? Also, does the temperature drop while the car is moving vs. sitting at idle? What temperatures is it getting up to? Has it gotten hot enough that your coolant has boiled over? Where are you located and what has the weather been like where you live?
