ok, i bought a 2000 c5 with 85k. The steering wheel has atleast one inch of play, and its a bit scary at 70 mph. i tightened the hell out of both bolts on the column, no help.
Is there an adjustment in the rack or something ?
appreciate any ideas.... thanks, Bob
There is a steering preload adjustment in the rack but with that much play I'd check out the rest of the suspension before I worried about that. Also, you say you "tightened the hell out of both bolts". Did you torque them to 25 ft/lbs?
One more thing; you may want to consider changing your screen name if you really do want helpful advice on this forum.
thanks mark, thats interesting ...so this adjustment can be found on top of the rack or something ??
I did not use a torque wrench, but I put enough on those bolts that my bicep hurt the next day.
My other thought is the upper part of the column, where there is some kind of coupler?? When I grab that w my hand and spin it left and right real quick, I can feel that slack between there and the steering wheel...make sense??
