Run against one from about 55-65..that's actually a sweet spot in second on fairly stock C5's.

4000ish RPM 2nd gear

i dont understand how a c5 can only make 290-300rwhp i have a friend that has a 2002 6speed camaro ss and the only thing done to it is a k/n replacement airfilter and it dynoed at 321rwhp. i figured a c5 would dyno around 330rwhp considering it is rated 30 hp more than a camaro

290 rwhp is right on for an early model 6-speed.

Also fill out your profile, what year vette do you have.

It is very humbling to get beat by a gto....some are quicker than they look.

I had a modded 06 GTO A4 and it was no slouch. People underestimate the LS2 Goats. My opinion if he's putting down 400 rwhp then he's close to 480 at the crank. He will probably get you by a length or 2.

Well for all the doubter's I had a bone stock 05 GTO A4 and I ran a stock 02 coupe 6 speed, from a dig at the track I smoked him 3 times.
What most people forget the 05-06 GTO's has 400/400 with a 3.46 axle and the auto's were quicker then the 6 speeds.
Yes they weigh about 400lbs more but 50hp and the axle ratio make a big difference.

Plus, the op mentioned the GTO had a tune. Part of that tune is always tweaking up the auto transmission. Torque management is usually deleted, or at least turned down; line pressure, to speed up the shifts, is usually increased; shift points rpm are usually increased. An auto, properly tuned, is pretty damn quick. Ask me how I know....

It's easier to understand once you realize that Camaros/Firebirds and Corvettes have the same engine for all intents and purposes (yes, slight differences in accessory setup, exhaust manifolds, some years had different cams, etc, but 99% the same). They underrated the F-body so as not to "compete" with the Corvette but they actually made the same power. Then, you add the fact that the F-body will have less parasitic drivetrain losses due to the 10-bolt solid rear axle. End result, the F-body generally puts out roughly 10rwhp over an identical Vette. Of course, they are heavier by ~200lbs so it is generally a driver's race. A lot of times, a stock F-body will beat a stock Vette at the dragstrip since they are easier to launch with the solid rear. From a roll, it's usually the other way around due to the lighter weight and better aero of the Vette.

So, an 02 SS (the best of the bunch, especially if it had the Y2Y options for an SLP lid and/or the dual/dual exhaust) could easily put down 320rwhp on a good day with almost no work. My 2000 put down 311rwhp with just a lid, and it was an automatic.

Do gears in the rear, that will really give you the edge, my buddy's coupe has a 4.10, that thing pulls, add that to your list and you should be good.

Btw did he have a passenger also? Cause if you were the only one who did that you gave up a little advantage you had, weight

you think i should change out my 3.42's for 4.10's? i actually just posted a question whether i should get that done or not. and yes i was the only one with a passenger and im not one to come up with excuses but we went from a 20mph roll on the third honk but he kinda split second jumped me right on the third honk so idk maybe we would be dead even if i didnt have a passenger

I had both my 6 speed Vette and my 06 six-speed Goat at the same time. My Vette was stock at the time and the GTO had Corsa cat back and k&n cai. The goat was scary fast. It would really sh*t and git. Yes it was heavy and bigger than the vette. I think it was quicker, but overall not as fast as the vette.

You'll lose some mpg if you do it, but hey so what lol and 4.10's definitely lol and who suggested the passenger? Cause if it was him,Im sure he knew you were lighter so he wanted you to have a passnger, and IMO not fair lol do it again, no passengers and thatll give you a lil more and and less fuel lol

Ask anyone whos done gears, they love em lol

I have a M12(Z06 trans) in my vert, eventually Ill probably do 3.73's, 3.90's may be too much
