Can I replace the steering wheel in my C5 with an after market wheel? Has only one done this, and with what results? I think the c5 wheel is too big. Anyone that has any suggestions would be a great deal of help.
Loosing the airbag is illegal in many states for a street car so look into that. There's a vendor that offer's a D wheel which I think uses the airbag.
To call them a 'D' wheels is a stretch because of the four spoke design. Caravaggio's C6 modded wheel is the best 'D' wheel, but of course can't be used on a C5.

There are other options for smaller wheels, however those usually involve a complete mod and you lose the airbag.
I just completed this mod last week and installed a Momo Trek R. If you are not concerned with maintaining the airbag, there are several brands and styles available. There are several threads that describe how to disable the airbag and remove the stock wheel. The only other issue is installing a 2 ohm resistor to ensure the airbag light does not constantly light up your dash. I love the new wheel and I just posted pics of my install in the C5 Coupe Photo Album. Good Luck!

Hopefully Caravaggio will be rectifying that problem soon.
Has anyone used Grant steering wheels? I have a nice one that was in my old 68 Cutlass that I'd love to use in the Vette. I've heard the kits from the older chevys work, but something needs to be ground or something.
I had a '99 Silverado that had the best looking modern steering wheel I've seen. It was leather and had "deep dish," sporty look to it. It was really very sharp. My '09 silverado has an ugly looking steering wheel. I woud love to have a steering wheel on my C5 similiar to that old silverado. Chevy seemed to be going backwards with the looks of their steering wheels IMHO.
Don't think so, I'm at the shop all the time. Getting the wheel to fit is one thing, but the bag won't work. If it could, I would have had it long ago.

Yes this is the correct momo adapter. The 2401 as shown in the link you posted iswhat you need. The only issue is that you need to use a dremel tool tp trim the plastic shroud wider to allow the adapter to fit. It is no big deal and after you widen the shroud purchase a strip of black door edge molding (door ding protector) at the auto part store and place this around the opening to clean it up. This adapter also has the casted opening that allows you to keep the white plastic horn connection. The wheels you posted are very nice either one of them would look great!
If you do modify, get the air bag version. Don't loose that safety issue just for a better steering wheel. Air bags saves lives, take my word, seen way to many accidents in the last 20 years in Law Enforcement to not have that system. Plus with a vette, you may push her once in a while, I think it is one safety item that should stay with the vette. Good luck in your quest.. (If I could only show you what a none-airbag wheel does to a body on a head on, you would never remove that air bag, ever...)
