im big into racing and i have alot of friends with supras, cobra, and fbodies.i always hear about these guys meeting up and doing cruises with other highly MODIFIED cars.i go out with the supra guys for their meets but i was wondering if any vette guys did.i know its an older crowd here (same as with the cobras) but they cobra guys will go out and tend to play a little.
every vette i see out is always stock (nothing wrong with that) but itd be fun to see if some heavier modded cars would come out.always like meeting new people.

I'm pretty sure a lot of guys here go to events such as "coffee & cars". It's not all vettes but it's a meeting point for guys who share the same appreciation of the automobile. There are several guys on the forum who are modded, and even some who are pushing the 1000hp barrier! As far as "go out and playing"...only on track days, unless cruising around downtown.
P.S.
Not all of us in here are old ...well not that old
From: Wylie TX --> Less is More, except under the hood !
Last weekend a bunch of us (~12+) cruised to Car's Coffee in Dallas (+500 cars of every type). Many of our cars are 500+ HP... one pushing over 1000HP. Some stock, some FAR from stock. We just like cruising and meeting other like minded car enthusiasts at these events.
i actually posted this is the wrong section (redid it in the northeast forum).i know people who go out to texas just for the texas mile, unfortunately im not exactly fast enough for that but hopefully next year i will.im just in the wrong state for what i like.i saw footage of the dallas vs. houston race and it made me want to move, and vid i seem to browse also appears to be from the lonestar,...im just really in the wrong state hahah
Find a local club. Ours does at least two a year. spring dogwood cruise and
fall leaf tour. (coming up this Sunday). I also map out a cruise for Corvette Expo (in March)in the foothills of the Smokies. Sveral of us do a spur of the moment Dragon/Carahala skyway cruise too.
I'm in NOVA and there are good corvettte clubs to get with, even if you don't join them offically. I have gone on several cruises and there are some hot corvettes as well as the garage queen stockers out. I think most drive playfully and careful, but I've seen some 800+ hp play as well. I like going west to the mountains, but I know that there are several MD based clubs and at times all local clubs (DC area) try to get together a couple times a year.
The best thing to do is search the web for corvette clubs and see what's near you. Go out and meet the floks and pick the events you want to get involved with. So far I have not found folks stuck up or unfreindly. Everyone seems fun and love to talk about their cars, give help, it don't get much better than that. Old folks, young folks, all kinds of folks. Most everyone wants to drive their cars and play. Jump in have fun.

ive found 2 locally in southern md,one was a the "modified" club, bunch of show cars and whatnot, really cool guys and had a ton of questions about my car,and another club (of older gentlemen kinda frowned upon me and a buddy when we pulled up in our cars.i guess they may have been a bit noisy for their specific tastes, but when you roll around on drag packs the intention of cars build is revealed and they werent fans
Just a typical lunch meeting in the Chicago suburbs, and trust me nobody runs stock around here. Most of the guys I have met have posted on the events regional section for my area (great lakes). You can always find guys hanging out and doing cruises and drag days in this section on this site.
I have mine out all the time,,for any reason. Put 10K a year,,and strictly for pleasure. I've had it to the strip quite a few times,,but sadly the strip is probably going to be closing,,,unless they find a buyer!!Gateway International,, mile and a quarter Oval with a road course through the infield and a great 1/4 mile facility!! They had NASCAR truck and Nationwide races,,and the NHRA Midwest nationals!! All series are not coming back next year,,not looking good!!I ,,and several club members like USING these cars as performance cars!!
It sounds like you are hanging out with the wrong group!
Try finding some Vette guys, there are many that are modified in MD
Thanks,Matt
thats why i posted this, trying to find more vette people, the people i hang out now are pretty fun, theyre a bunch of roll on people so i dont mind that being how id ive torn 2 300m axles out of this car already

Yeah, I hear ya. I usually say I got the vert cause I can throw beer cans out in almost any direction. It helps separate the fuddy duddy's. Not that I would really do that.
Aaah, that's just the way folks are. Most that I have meet are pretty open. Their are the purists, historians, racers, and all kinds.
I find that going to cruise nights you find more people to chat with without any pressures of competition. I used to attend more car shows which have entry fees and prizes, but found that if a local club is hosting it, and your not a member, you kind of feel a little bit like an outsider, and don't have a chance of winning, because the members all vote for the other members cars regardless if yours was nicer than the winners. Can be discouraging and kind of a let down. Some of the club members can, on occasion act like it's there own personal show with outsiders especially younger guys not entirely welcomed there. This is just some of my experience and not always the case. Cruise nights offer a more layed back experience, since it's not a competition, and also you can get the opportunity to do some driving with other people, something you can't do when your locked in a car show parking lot until they allow you to leave.
