Default blackwing parts

Hey all,
I need some clarification on the blackwing install. i bought mine a few weeks ago from a guy, it came with one coupler and clamps, guy said it was off his late year model vette. anyways installed it on mine and have had nothing but trouble, get a ( P0102 ) code, = MAF low freq .
anyways i have tried looking for something loose, tried driving for about 60 miles, right when i think all is good, next time i drive car the check engine light is back with the code.
Reading info ; it to me sounds like to install this blackwing on my 01' i need a coupler and a reducer ? just want clarifications to what i need, because the coupler i have fits great fits from my filter to the maf fine . So do i need another coupler?
thanks for your help

You need the Donaldson/SLP Adapter, P/N: 21111 SLP Performance parts has them, in the parts list on the left of this webpage.

I take it you didn't get the installation sheet that comes with the filter. It's pretty simple, but here it is...
http://www.westcoastcorvette.com/fil...ctions/376.htm

You can find more with a GOOGLE search and keywords "installing an slp blackwing".

You should be able to find more threads/images on this forum, in C5 Tech, using search or search this forum (in the red banner) with the same keywords.

If you're using the oem air bridge, you'll find it'll be a bit frustrating to align the TORX pins to the air filter and the air bridge so it sits flat. It'll wear a hole in the hood insulator if you don't get it flat.

I started with attaching the filter to the TORX pins on the bumper fascia first, working back towards the throttle body, adjusting the adapters and tightening the clamps.

In the end, I had to remove the "Blackwing" due to persistant lean codes (@ 5,200 ft altitude).

well i bought the blackwing used, the guy said he had it on his vette (appropriate year) and all was good. so, i bought it. I got it with one coupler and clamps. figured i was replaceing a duel cone, cheaper intake so, no worries, dropped the blackwing in, put everything together, the filter coupler, maf,and yes i use the stock airbridge which yeah, i now notice the stupid wear marks on my hood liner.
well i have searched and searched, even tried the old drive it after resetting the engine light for about 60 miles, next day light returned. so? just bought the adapter and cleaner, gonna try again i guess, if not. trash it will go i guess.
thanks for your response and your help
frustrated i am

Just take your time, start at the bumper TORX pins and work backwards to the throttle body. It's still the most popular filter system from the after market.

But it is an after market part being adapted to and used in conjunction with oem parts, so it will test your patience. When you get it installed check and double check for any potential air leaks. Those will cause the lean codes I experienced.

I initially used an after market silicone (throttle body) coupler to complete the installation and to improve the looks. The problem with those is they frequently need minor trimming if they're to long. And they are somewhat rigid. That added to my frustration.

You can just use the oem accordion coupler in conjunction with the oem air bridge and cause yourself less problems. It's more forgiving due to its pleats.

SLP offers what they call a "bump" coupler. It doesn't require trimming. You can buy the coupler through SLP, SUMMIT RACING or JEG'S. It looks like this. It's SLP part number 23066...

Are you referring to the #23066 SLP coupler in the image above? Or the short #21111 additional coupler that the '01 requires?

Or are you referring to the oem reducing coupler like shown in this image? If I recall correctly, it uses only one clamp which is supposed to secure the filter and the MAF.

Welp, tried it all i think. Bought the 21111 coupler (adapter), cleaned and oiled filter,(not alot of oil) cleaned MAF, made sure everythign was together ; did about all i can that has been suggested and no dice, Car still gets a check engine light , and a P0102 code after like the second drive. so who knows guess my vette doesnt like the blackwing.Trash the blackwing and go back to the cheap duel cone i had on before it.
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the suggestions, and help.

thanks again
chris
