I replaced the HUD windshield on my 2001 'Vette cpe. with a non-HUD, not really caring if I had HUD and also because of the price difference.
I was pleasantly surprised that the HUD works just fine and now I like it.
The job was done by All Pro Windshields (Houston Area ) at a very reasonable price ( mine was less than $300 ). The tech that they sent did a fine job. He didn't break any trim or moldings which I understand is a real concern. If you need a new windshield or chip repair, I'd suggest you give All Pro a call. Talk to Susan if you can - tell her you heard about them on Corvette Forum. They'll come to you.
The difference is that the HUD windshield has a front surface (closer to the drivers eyes) coating so that the image is projected on a surface before passing through the thickness of the glass and suffering blurring due to a slightly shifted second image. It's subtle, but people with sharp vision are bothered by the double image.

I thought on coupe's you had to replace the windshield molding and the compelete weather stripping around the a-pillars. For $300 they must not have done that (or didn't need to in your case)?
I recall that the glass company did leave the door open for parts replacement. I watched the tech enough to see that he was very meticulous, so I suppose he saved me some money.
I agree with CaliforniaJack that there is a very slight "fuzziness", due to the reflection coming off the outside surface. Since my eyesight and thinking are both fuzzy, doesn't bother me.
