thank for your reply......i did do that to start with but i could not seem to find any clear cut stuff other than upgrades, addictions, ect......this car i'm looking at has almost 70 k on it and i'm wondering what i'm in-store for...i think its good to hear from people that already own them on whats good and whats not......
Keep reading about the different years here on the forum. Each year has its little flaws and little pluses, but all C5's are great cars to own. In my opinion, they got better each year.
After 14 years of talking about the C5, just about every question has been asked on this forum. Get familiar with the search function and the search (within) the forum located on the right.

I just found that site that states differences in years. I was looking for info about the engines and what-not.
Basically for me, I like the engine aspect of a car and beginning in '01 the Vette had some nice improvements in respect to the motor.
If you're looking just to drive a Vette and the '00 is a great deal, get it. But, if you're more interested in power and stuff, maybe finding an '01-04 would be a lil bit better for ya.

Just my .02
i want to thank you all for the input ...i got a lot of pros and no cons so it must be the right car to buy for 18k....it seems like the 2001 and up are the real good ones, one more thing can i put the 2001 motor in the 2000? it seems to be a better motor...
I own a 2000 and the only minus is that it didn't come from the factory with 1000hp.
There are a couple of errors in post #18 on the 2000 provided in the link above. There may or may not be more on the other years.
2000
• Millennium Yellow available
• ? "Thin Spoke" versus "wagon wheel" design wheels become standard.
• Pup cats added to CA and New England models for LEV emissions requirements (5hp loss relative to 97-99) Possible 5hp increase on these 2000 engines due to an improved cam for this year.
• Steel swaybar endlinks instead of plastic on Z51 equipped cars The Z51 has plastic rear end links.
• Z51 swaybar diameters grow (25.4/21.7 to 28.6/21.7 to 28.6/23.6 (note: new rear same as Z06)
• No keyhole on passenger side doorhandle
• Passenger airbag 'off' switch added to console (light by TC/AH button) Early production 2000 do not have this switch. It was added in Feb 2000.
Power wise 98-2000----345hp after that 350hp. Put a LS-6
intake on and you have 350. OH Yea 2001 and after have the
LS-6 intake. All of this won't matter if you decide to go beyond
stock. I have a 2000 and it is a great car. It is not stock.

No real down side - I had a '00 for 7.5 years and loved it. While there were many changed made to the '01 model, the '00 has all the goodies you need and is a good performing car.
well a car with not munch of a down side is the car for me ,i just called the guy and told him i will offer 17.5 ......he said he will let me know on Sunday.... i do want to thank you all that gave me input and helped me make the decisive move. I'm not a rich man(just like u all i work hard for my money) it took me a bit of time to save for this corvette ....
2000 is a good year if you are not looking for a Z06. You get alot more options over a 97,98 and all the quiet improvements they did over the early models. The 2001 is probably the sweet spot IMO.
i will offer 17.5 ......he said he will let me know on Sunday....
Know that tires alone for this car are $800-1500. Have it checked out by a neutral party. You may be able to bargain more if you know it will need brakes soon (i.e.).

The motor swap probably wouldnt be the most cost effective. Only the intake and cam are different, and the cam is only a very small amount in difference.
Now swapping in an LS3, that might be kinda nice
Any of the Vettes would benefit greatly from a bigger cam, springs, and maybe intake.
I gave $16,500 for my 2000 convertible over a year ago. It had 80+K miles on it. I think you can get yours for a better price, considering it's not a 'vert. It's been very reliable.
The 2000 Corvette did not have any problems with the motor. It did not have the ls-6 intake so they put a little better cam to reach the power level. check out the ls engine details books and you will find that the block was refined to provide better oiling on the top end over the previous designs and they increased the cam specs. In 2001, the ls-6 motors had oil starvation issues and some people blew their motors and is the least liked ls-6 motor not only for the 385 hp instead of 405 but I believe it was the number 7 cylinder had oiling issues. All you need to do is replace your 2000 factory intake with an ls-6 intake off a 2001 or later or even an f-body 2001 or later and you will have excellent power and maybe few more since the 2000 camshaft was slightly more aggressive than the 2001 and above to make up for the ls-6 intake it did not have. My 2000 is moderately modded and it runs excellent. If it's an a4 swap to 3:42 gears and hold on!
